Default Some Cardinal shrimps cohabiting with Blue Tigers

    Hi all,

I am pleased to report that all my blue tiger shrimps are well, feeding and moutling fast.

There are some Cardinal shrimps in the tank too as I was lucky enough to discover some.

Can they cross-breed? I am hoping to avoid this.

    Thanks if you can help.

    Regards,
    Golden_Eyes.

P.S. For your information, yes they can co-habit and they do not cross breed. I have some rocks for the Sulawesi shrimps and mossballs for both. They are very happy and sitting in groups, feeding. They are all alive and well after 4 days. I must have some stock bred Sulawesi shrimps rather than wild imported (the way I prefer for their own health and happiness).

A Cardinal shrimp moulted succesfully whilst I was wiriting this and is finding its feet! Many tigers have grown since I first had them 2/3 weeks ago. They are all happy so far.

    Sounds like an interesting tank!
What are the water parameters and water temp?

    Thanks

Tigers need slight cooler temperature than cardinals. If you keep your tiger for a longer time above 23 degree, it will reduce lifetime. They prefer a pH under 8,0 also (which is good for cardinals).

Thanks for your replies. They are all still alive and well, and feeding. The tank has been matured for a few weeks before I slowly increased the number of shrimp in it by 1 every 3 days. I have lots of rocks in it from the Dennerle shrimp tank decoration kits so they are safe and Sulawesi love hanging out in the crevasses and picking at the rocks. I also have some clay circles normally used to weigh aquatic plants down covering much of the floor, there is a 2 inch thick layer of black 2mm gravel on the floor overlying some 3 inches of fertiliser substrate from Dennerle made for shrimp tanks. I feed them blanched Spinach, fish food and Crusta-gran. Is there anything else I could try to feed them just to put variety in their diets?

There are two moss balls ripped in half and placed between these clay circles to hold them down. The shrimp can get under these moss balls and it gives them a sense of security. The temp is normally 21- 3 degrees and the cardinals are not bothered, zero ppm ammonia and nitrates, yes a less than neutral Ph. They are moulting and feeding well. They behave in a very different way to the Tigers, they move in a more stop- start way. Tigers pick at everything relentlessly, the Cardinals seem to have a feeding regime. I have used Dennerle Bi-Active to ensure that there are enough Nitrogen-respiring bacterium in the tank and filter.

There are some plants too that look like small grasses and long stemmed four leaved clovers. The Sulawese shrimps are gorgeous, they are ruby red with white spots and white feeding claws/ tails. The tigers are 50% blue with golden eyes and the remaining are blond/ black with golden eyes. I am not sure how to put up pics or even videos here. I have some nice vids of the Tigers feeding and Sulawesi in the distance feeding.

    Thanks.
