I saw my first cardinal shrimplets today!!!!! Very cute!!!

I would say crushed coral substrate will work fine , at least for cardinals.

I use coral chips in a external canister filter to raise pH. In addition with an air pump it works fine.

I also use coral chips but as a bottom. To discard nitrates I prepared plantfilter.

I am able to get water samples from most of the lakes in Sulawesi. However, I do not know where to send the water for a complete chemical analysis. The labs that i know of charge a hefty sum. Anyone who wishes to collaborate please let me know.

This is the measurement I have during a trip to the lakes last year.

    Lake Matano
    pH 8.5
    TDS 88
    GH 1
    KH 5-6

    Lake Poso
    pH 8.3
    TDS - 92
    GH 1
    KH 4-5

Most if not all water for packing the shrimps is not from the lakes. So testing the water your shrimps come in with is inaccurate.
After collection, the shrimps are quarantine for around a week in the collector "farm". After the weakest have die off, the rest are packed and sent to Jakarta.
The shrimps are further quarantined in Jakarta water before being shipped out. This can be a few days to a week, depending on exporters.
As long as the exporter is based in Jakarta, this is what they do.

    Hi joydiv,

    EXCELLENT piece of information!

Are you sure that the GH is only 1....
I have read in another sites that the GH was around 6!
(I'll search for the site and put them here!)

I'll try to search here how much water it's needed and how much
the laboratory charge for the water analysis!

Hey guys, is there any update on this topic? Has anybody done a detailed analysis of the water? Just curious!
