    Default Some Help required as no idea what's the root cause

    this is current my tank (upgrade since end of Dec) Was previously on a Dymax IQ3 (where shrimplets died being stuck in the internal filteration area).
    IMG_0359.jpg

    Temperature currently is between 24 - below 26 degrees celsius now and is the only cooling mode is via a Dymax 12V fan. Will increase to a hot 32degrees or more in the hot spells.

    Tank Parameters
    PH = 6.5 - 7
    GH = 6
    Filter = Ehiem Ecco PRo 130 ( Canister Filter)
    Tank is 1.5feet long and situated far from any direct light but is near the TV.
    feed alternate days only
    Plants: US Fissiden on the only piece of Driftwood and some Dragon Rocks.
    Water used for top-up : Purified tap water

    I keep some Red Rilis, Cherries, Fire Red, Fire Yellows, Blue Pearls & Fire Orange for about 1 year with hardly / no casualties transferred from the Dymax tank(not sure what they are called).IMG_0378.jpg

    recently added some CRS, 4 BDS and some Snow Whites.

    I have started doing some mini stock take each day now as i noticed like 1 of the CRS/BDS/SnowWhites will die compared to the Fire Red types. they all don't just die all together but like taking turns and it starts getting me worried.

    in a couple of months, the weather will become hotter and more humid, and i am seriously considering to rig a chiller to my current set-up.

    Any suggestions or advise please?

    Your tank with all the different shrimp looks nice, however some of them will crossbreed and give you brown offspring, and you will lose the colors over generations. Most shrimp keepers keep one specie only in a tank, as shrimp of the same kind do not stress each other so much.

    Why you new shrimp died, one can only guess: It might have been the new bacteria environment of your tank, or the temperature.

    I suggest that you go on with neocaridina type only - you probably won't need a chiller than.
    it is not about being right or wrong. it is about learning!

    thanks for your suggestion.

    Agree that they may crossbreed, but that would be the least of my worries right now. First priority to me is their survival rate and that I can at least see them molting normally(aka they are comfortable and growing). Eventually, i will be thinking of setting up specialised tanks for each type. maybe a split the tank or something. (Baby steps now, as keeping Blue King Kong is my ultimate objective for this project)

    Bacteria environment you say: then how to i improve the environment. I actually gotten aged water to cycle the tank from a very stable tank, thanks to a bro, and have also cycled the tank for at least a minimum of 2 weeks. brought over the original occupants and monitored them for a week before introducing new ones. No casualties. Start of dying begin a day after when i got new shrimps, some original occupants died too just 1 or 2.

    thus, i simply cannot seem to lay a finger on the exact cause as i acclimatise them by using the floating method and them dripping them before actually releasing them into the main tank.

    May i know what made you suggest to go on the neocaridina type and without a chiller? Just curious though it kind of dampen the enthusiasm I have for CRS.

    To be honest, the main reason why i got hooked on Shrimps started when i was keeping dwarf puffers. As these fishes are such picky eaters, and they poop alot, i got some crs ones ignorantly thinking that they were just colourful versions of filter shrimps and would help eat up "fish crap" and put them together. they looked lovely and stayed with my puffers peacefully until i read that they are snacks to puffers.

    kept them for about 2 - 3months before when one CRS died and the puffers picked at it. I took them out when i saw the puffers attacked the crs and not knowing that they need clean water with filter, they all died. These CRS actually survived at room temperature without fan and with lid. Guess i was just lucky then.

    that started my interest in keeping CRS. But do to space constraint, a 1.5feet tank is all that is possible now.

    thus, am hear to learn from all the experts here.

    26c is really pushing it for Taiwan Bee varieties. It should be no problem for the various cherries you have, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if the high temp was the cause. They really prefer temperatures below 24, and I think most shoot for 22-23. Also Taiwan Bee's really like consistency, even if the temperature is ok for them, the 2C swings in temp might be causing them stress.

    Hi Deep6,

    hmm.. i see your point here and i appreciate Imke_J's concerns. But, for my current set up, i am not sure what kind of Chiller will be best here. I know that chillers need a certain flowrate from the canister filter as well as space for the hot air to circulate? Am not sure. I was told by the LFS here that 26 is still bearable, but i do not want to take the risk. Current temperature is definitely below 26. usually 25.5 degrees now, but the local LFS keeps them at 26.4 degrees. so, i am surely confused. so far, since the last death, it has been 5 days of no casualties, still crossing my fingers. so, am looking out actively to get a chiller so that i do not have to keep adding purified top-ups everyday. Believe that will cause a swing in PH & GH. show some left over molts yesterday. i will want to upgrade my tank probably when i can stablize the water condition, have a chiller, etc, and as Imke_J suggested, to seperate them as they will crossbreed.

    For my tank, I have a fan hooked up to temperature controller, that automatically turns the fan on when the water temp gets too high. I run A/C in my room, to keep my room from getting hotter than 25.5C. I would run the A/C anyway to keep my room from getting too hot, so I don't consider it an extra expense. But I am lucky to live where the temperature never gets too hot, and the humidity stays low.
