    Default Breeding Lines

To have a healthy strong breeding line of shrimp, is it better to add new shrimp to the gene pool or just let them interbreed with each other. e.g. if I start with 5 crs shrimp and they multiply to 20, then 40 etc. will they be as fit and healthy as the original 5 or would I be better to remove the young shrimp or add new crs shrimp from different lines?

Always add to the gene pool! If your starting group is only 5 CRS then it would be best to add new shrimp every couple of generation, sooner preferably.
When i die make sure my wife sells my shrimp for what they are worth, not what i told her they are worth.

    Only via pm on here.

Keep in mind that mixing shrimp colonies can also lead to bacterial infections, new shrimp MUST be quarantined, even that is often not enough without additional measures.

Will do. So... the likelyhood is that if got my original 5 shrimp from the same breeder then they probably are from the same parents and therefore their offspring are all interbred. Crikey. Where's my banjo? (deliverance)

P.S. like your signature. Too true.

Huh, I've never heard of this, can you elaborate on what you have to do to avoid bacterial infections, and how common/serious of a problem is this? Thanks!

From reading an article by a famous Japanese CRS breeder, interbreeding will cause problems such as the deformed or super weak shrimplets. But that normally doesn't occur until F5, and more likely at F10. Some Japanese breeders can delay it until F15. Keeping the same line going is better in achieving certain character goal (pattern, colouration, .. etc), but introducing new gene pool will become necessary to maintain a healthy line. You gain some and lose some.

Introducing golden gene is a completely different story. A lot people do it, only a few admit.
