    Default 75g neo melting pot

Oh how plans change. My 75g went from a planted community fish tank, to a fishless, RCS tank, now to a neo melting pot. I have RCS, "wild" neos, yellows, and now some chocolate culls that I received today. I am in the process of setting a 20L Tiger tank and will also use that to try and breed out some nicer RCS, but otherwise, I'm just going to let things happen in the big tank and see what I get. Could be interested, could end up with a tank full of hundreds of wild coloration neos. Time will tell. Here's a couple shots of the residents for now...

WHOAA ! Nice pics bro ! But why mix them ? You only gonna get some dull, brown and "glass" shrimps outta that mix...
Nice coloured RCS too.....would be a shame to blow that color away.My 2 cents...or crowns...

I don't know. You never know what will happen. Might get something cool out of the mix that can be bred further. Besides, there were so many brown ones in there anyways and I have no idea where they even came from, short of tearing the tank down and eliminating them, there would be almost no way to get them all out.

Anyways, once I get the 20L running I do plan to start pulling out the nicer reds and try to breed out fire or painted RCS. The big tank is just for my enjoyment and even though a lot of the shrimp in there are not bright and colorful, I still like them. I do have the 40B that is 100% yellows too. Eventually I'll get another 20L for just RCS, the good ones anyways.

I may even setup a 10g and try my hand at trying to pull out some chocolate neos from the browns I already have.

Mixing different neos isnt always a good idea...probably u gonna get some awful offspring that nobody wants, then u sitting there all alone with no "shrimpfriends" just hating you....cant get rid of ur badly coloured shrimps....

That's why the yellows are in their own tank and the nicer RCS will be removed. However, on another site, there seems to be a little demand for the wild neos. Might not get a lot for them, but I think they are sellable. Even at $.50 each, it's still money in my pocket and these guys aren't going to stop producing anytime soon...

Thanks. The wild neos are too many to really do anything about at this point without nuking the tank to kill them off. I could remove the RCS and gas (CO2) what's left, but that would just end up being messy and more of a PITA I think than it's worth. I set the 75g tank up not as a breeding tank per say but just for my enjoyment. So...really, I kinda like the little brownies. I do agree though that the nicer RCS line shouldn't be destroyed so I do hope to keep that going and improve it in a separate tank that I am in the process of setting up. I appreciate the advice and have been learning a lot hanging out here.
