Lightbulb New project: Superfish Wave 15 Shrimptank CRS/CRB

    Hi shrimpfans!!!

    So here is the deal...
I am starting a new project and I'm going to document it here

Let me present to you the "Superfish Wave 15"

It's already in my room cycling

I wanted a new nano project as soon as I saw several shrimp that I kept on thinking about, and wanted to get in the future. It was hard to choose from all the different nano aquaria, but this one has some real big advantages.

It contains dual light LED white/blue with a dimmer.
You can combine it, or use it separately from each other, in various settings.

In the middle you have the separate housing for the filter and the heater.

It comes with an Aquaflow 50. Which I already have moderated i.m.o. into a more bio-mechanical efficient filter. It contains from bottom to top:
    - Sponge (Foam), I took the activated carbon out as it does nothing for nitrate/nitrite, it only
filters out colorants and medication and I switched it with sera siporax mini.
    - Filter Wool
    - Mini bag of sera iporax mini
    - Top layer small sponge

I really am a fan of siporax, it is a glass fiber compound on which bacteria can settle.
1 liter sera siporax has the same surface for bacteria to settle on as much as 34 liters of ceramic media.... So it enhances your filter a lot

The filter comes with adjustable outflow tubes so you can basically do anything, direction wise

The back of the tank is really tightly done and has an opening for the wiring.

The LED hood can come off the tank, btw, it's easy but should be done with care.

I don't want to give up all my plans just yet
But I will share with you some of the stuff I am going to work with :

    - Substrate will be fluval shrimp stratum again, very happy with this.

    - Going to work with some tolerant plants like for example:
o.a. Microsorium pteropus (Javafern) Chladoflora Aegagropphila (Moss bal), Eleocharis Acicularis ( spikesedge), Vesicularia Dubyana ( Java moss) Lymnophila Heterophylla (Cambomba-like plant)

    - Mini moorkien shrimp wood, pre- sterillised and does not change the color of the tankwater anymore.

    - Ceramic items

    - Perhaps some slate stone.... or other natural looking materials....

The set up will hopefully be peaceful, not too crowded but also not too empty.

I think I have some well thought out plans
    My hands are ITCHING!!! LOL

The tank is now cycling, I filled it for 35% with tank water from my already stable aquarium, will shorten the cycling period, and added extra nitrifying bacteria.

Put a little layer of stratum about 1,5 cm's in it, to start the PH lowering capability.
Going to put some more in it, until it's about 2,5 cm in layer.

The big question was which shrimp???

Thought about this a long time and...

    No......
Did'n't have to think that long

CRS and/or CRB, are coming in a while

I absolutely adore those, I would like any grade as long as they are banded
I also like high grades very much A/S/SS/SSS and have already located "Mosura" and "Tiger Tooth"etc. so exciting times for me!!

Keep subscribed to this thread if you like, I am going to document the whole process here

There will be pictures/video's and all sorts of fun stuff!

    Take care

    Joey

    nice project!

won't it be difficult to maintain a solid water-quality in such a small tank?
is the FSS going to adjust the pH/kH and gH enough for the CRS/CBS, or are you planning to use other solutions for that?

    I'll follow this thread

    Hi,

    Thank you
It depends on what you think is difficult.
I have a 20 liter tank with excellent water quality. But maintained by frequent water changes of 20% I am used to it, and I don't mind, I love interaction with animals.
FSS is going to adjust the water for me, I dont like using 8 different bottles of chemicals. And it will only over complicate things. That is not necessary.

The substrate will lower the PH enough for them to be in there comfort zone. The CRS and CBS that are bred are also adapting better to different water parameters, and I wont buy wildcaught shrimp.
Nevertheless I will take great care in acclimatising them.

Looking forward to getting started, in the next days I will get the stuff I ordered....And I will try to make something nice for them....

If the idea in my head works it will look very natural.

    Take care!

    Joey

Osmosis water could help... nothing chemical in there
    it's available in Tiel for 24 cents/litre :-)

Haha, seriously you are also from Tiel? .
Never expected that in the slightest

I know I could do that, and it's a good suggestion, but I think it's unnecessary. I do not have a reverse osmosis installation so I would always have to buy it...

I prepare the water with aquasafe beforehand, just to be sure.
The Crystals that are bred these days have a higher tolerance for parameters and I don't want to make it overly complicated. I do the same for my 20 liter tank, and my water has been tested at home and in a store and everything was optima forma.
Crystal Red /Black prefer a lower PH than the water gives us, so I provide them with that by means of the shrimp stratum which makes it around 6,8, slightly acidic. And I always have some catappa leaf in the water for helping with that. The leaf also influences the PH to acidic and the tanine in the leaf is beneficial for the shrimps health. All the other levels like GH/KH are within the normal parameters for them. No3+No2 I keep at near 0 at all time by weekly/sometimes a bit longer, water changes of 20 to 25%.

And it seems the tank will cycle a bit more on,

I ordered all my stuff on Tuesday but haven't received anything yet, the order contained live plants so sometimes it takes a few days extra.
I don't mind that much, but I want to get started!!

so sadly I can't provide an update yet.

When the stuff does come in I'll make a lot of pics and document the process of implementing everything so it should be fun!

    Take care,

    Joey

And then there were some updates

    Some stuff that I ordered:

    Some extra FSS substrate:

    Ceramic Hide

    Sterilised Moorkien Wood

    Javafern & Mossball

    Hygrophila Polysperma & Pogostemon Helferi:

So far the extra stuff I ordered….

After adding FSS it’s a nice muddy pool :

In the meantime started tying the Javafern to the wood.

    Adding a little Javamoss :

    It’s coming a long…

    Step 1:

Adding wood with Ferns and Moss

    Step 2:
Added Mossball, and a little Pogostemon Helferi

    Step 3:
    Looks nice :

Little bit scared of trying Pogostemon again, haven’t had any success with it earlier so I’m starting with one little shoot:

    Endresult:
Added Lysimachia & Lymnophila, added some flatstones and catappa leaf

    Close up:

    Right:

    Hope you guys enjoyed it…
    Worked on it 7 hours non-stop so I’m beat…
Couldn’t find a way to hide the yarn I used to tie the plants to the wood but after all of this…
    I’ll deal with it
I am so happy with the endresult…

    Take care now,

    Joey
