Angry Bubbles on the surface of my tank water

I cant seem to escape these darn bubbles. In both of my aquariums little bubbles create a "foam" almost around anything on the surface of the water. Surface Tension? I do 20% water changes every 7 days. Anybody else experience this, or should I just double my water changes?

Hi Jake! I am currently usinf Fluval Shrimp Stratum (FSS). The tank has matured for 4 months, on top of a cycling period. After your 90% WC is the problem solved? I'm nervous to do a WC that large due to many shrimplets and a berried female. I definetly appreciate your input!

I wouldnt worry too much about changing the water unless the water going in is a lot different then the water that is in the tank now. Shrimplets dont really swim around a lot and stay on the substrate. That foam though is usually something that happens with new tanks. It usually goes away after a few weeks. But you said this tank has been up for 4 months? If thats the case the foam could be something chemical in the water like excess nuets. or whatever.

For water changes I use RO water. would I be taking to many essential nutrients away when doing a WC that large without adding extra chems.....

What I might do in your case is do 10% every few hours until you have done 90%. I wouldnt worry about nutrients anyway. Infact if anything mix your RO water with regular tap (with prime) to get ideal KH and GH. Or remineralize the water if you have it.
