I'm still pretty new to shrimp keeping and noticed that most people check more TDS rather than GH. I went out and bought myself a TDS meter today because I was wondering why my shrimp keep dying anytime I add (dose) something etc to the tank or add water or do the water change. I checked my tap water which goes through a whole home charcoal filter and the TDS for my water was 70ppm. Now the TDS for my tank right now after checking is 265ppm. Could this be the reason my shrimp seem to have a hard time or is it still not that high? I used to check the GH only and keep it at about 80-90ppm so 4.5 to 5 degrees using seachem equilibrium which I stopped using after reading about its possible high TDS effect.
I have no idea what could be causing this high TDS in the tank. I have fluval shrimp stratum, a piece of driftwood and 3 rocks. PH is 7
Anyone have some advice as to what I should do to correct my tank TDS without stressing my shrimp?
