Hi guys
I just want to hear some of your experience.
I just purcahsed RO system for USD 700.00. TDS is 7 ppm but PH is 9. Tap water before RO is PH 8 after RO is 9 PH
Is the PH 9 normal?
Is it good for human drinking?
Thanks a lot.

Run this search on Google: measure pH ro water
Depending on the type of pH test it is typical to have issues reading your RO ph.
If you use a pH pen you may have to recalibrate.
Wait for someone here to tell you how they deal with this but with a TDS that low I think you are fine. Many recharge their RO with supplement immediately after making RO so that probably corrects the issue.
I bought an RO today but it's been 20 years and I don't remember what I did myself.
Anyone else have to deal with bad pH reading after RO, if so, how do you deal with it?

I experienced the exact problem when I initially purchased my RO unit. It can be caused by:
1) RO unit is intended for human drinking water. If so, it will have a unit on it that adds alkalinity, this will be placed after the RO membrane unit. Alkalinity is added improve the taste of the water, as the long term effects of people drinking acidic water is proven to contribute to many health issues. It's also added to inhibit corrosion of household plumbing.
or
2) It is a result of the agent used by the manufacturer to sterilise the unit prior to use - many of which are caustic. If this is the case, it will flush out within 2-3 days of being connected.
My water was coming out of the unit at <5ppm TDS, but it was all KH. At such levels of purity, even very small amounts of KH will push pH up to the high 7's and low 8's.
Hope this helps.

now i'm a little bit confused. When i test my PH through PH Pen its PH 8.8. But using Tropical liquid PH tester its 6.2. Now my dilemma is what PH tester now to use to get the exact PH for my RO. ANy info will be highly appreciated.

Nope. because it says precalibrated, but I tested the pen in different water and its quite accurate. Only with RO water its rising to PH 9. but and the weird part is that, the liquid tester is 6.2. Any reconmmendations how i can test my RO water properly? or How to manage RO water which can be suitable for Crs?

RO water, provided its real RO water, should have a PH near 7. I don't know how PH testing pens work, so couldn't tell you what could cause it to report falsely.
Are you measuring the RO water in a clean holding container (bucket, bowl, etc) right after it comes out the filter, or after you've added it to the tank? Since RO water should have a KH of 0, just a little contaminate can cause the PH to bounce around since it has no buffering capability.
Also, go out and buy a second liquid PH test kit from another brand. If the two kits test out the same, you know the pen is the source of the issues.

yes i use plastic bowl and test the water after coming out from RO,
maybe thats what i should do, get another PH tester and have it tested.
Hope it will have good results.

Hi, if you have good lfs near you, they may have the ph calibration solution. then you can test your pen against a known solution. There is usually an adjustment somewhere on the unit to calibrate it.
