    Default Help! CRS is dying.

    Hi,

I am new in this forum, and also new in keeping shrimp.

I have a 5 gallons with Fluval Stratum soil, Eheim 2213 filter. Some Christmas moss.

Phosphate is 0.17 which is good. Temp at 71F. These are the parameters:

I feed them MOSURA CRS food, and add MOSURA Mineral Plus after water change. I used RO water by the way.
They are dying after molting. There were a few successfully molt before. My friend gave me about 12 S+ to SS shrimp, now I have only 5. I can't figure out why. What else should I test? Please help.

    Thanks,
    Peter

it depends also from the origin of the shrimp whether it is straight imported ones or already used to water conditions in your country.

i originally bought 5 CRS and 5 CBS few months ago and they were dying till i had 2 pairs per each color variation. they are doing well and breeding, now they are hatching eggs for the third time in a row and i have many CRS, CBS shrimplets. After releasing eggs, females were hatching eggs after 3 days..really productive, but i am little bit afraid of them whether it is not harmful. Havent changed conditions in aquarium at all. Regular water changes, i am not using RO and it is working somehow.

Good luck with those remaining, once they breed, u will not able to stop them

Thanks for the reply. I will ask my friend for more CRS.

Today, I just received my gravel cleaner. It got a lot of dirt out from the gravel. I vacuumed 1/3 of the gravel, and planning to do it again in two days.

How many of you use a gravel vacuum and how often do you use it?

    Thanks,
    Peter

With more water changes, the 5 shrimps are doing well. One of the female is carrying eggs.

I have Fluval Shrimp Stratum. All three females are carrying eggs now. The first one is about three weeks now. How long does it take to hatch?

With the right temperature, which is about 22-25 deg C, IMO about 3 weeks. +/-

I don't gravel clean at all. Stirring up the gravel usually causes ammonia spikes which can kill. Test stripes aren't that accurate. I would suggest get a TDS meter and liquid test stripes. Also, when you are adding the mosura mineral plus, how much are you adding? I find it takes more on the bottle than it says to get a proper TDS. If the gH isn't high enough, they will have problems molting or molt and then not be able to grow a new shell and die.

I have a TDS meter, but what is the proper TDS with Mosura mineral plus? I am planing to have an under gravel filter setup with Eheim 2213.
