Default First attempt as a shrimp only tank....

It's a 20T that I had on hand. I want to switch it over to a 20L next time Petco has a $1 a gallon sale, but for now this will work just fine I think.

Anyways, pretty basic. Black sand substrate, some plants pulled from my main tank, filtration is an AquaClear 50, lighting is a DIY fixture with a 55/65w PC bulb in 6500k.

Fauna includes about 35 RCS, MTS, and some pond snails. No fish will be added to this tank. It will remain shrimp only. I might later try out some dwarf crayfish and see how that works, but otherwise, just the shrimp.

That's about it. I'll get some pics up as soon as I figure out how or get 15 posts....

    Hello!

Sounds like a good way to go, I like DIY fixtures it adds something personal.
Basic, is fine, if it's sufficient for your shrimp and yourself, then less is more.

Keep an eye on those snails and your plants, some species like algae, but when they are done...go for the plants.
I like snails, but hope you got the ones that don't get to your plants.

Further more, if you are planning to try some dwarf crayfish, I would suggest CPO Cambarellus Patzcuarensis var. Orange. They are like the Cherryshrimp of Crayfish And they look awesome too.
They get to 5 cm, but I would not combine these with shrimp....
It can go well for a while, and some people don't seem to have issues, but when one species get's dominant, it's not that easy anymore.
The shrimp could get attacked and the crayfish can get stressed out of the fast growing population of shrimp.

I.M.O. Shrimp only or Crayfish only tanks are the way to go.
Though some may or may not agree with me on that.

    Anyway!

I'd love to see those pictures! I'll keep tabs on it!
    I really dig shrimp pics!

    Take care now,

    Joey

Thanks a bunch for the response. I am working on those posts so I can get some pics up...

Everyone seems to be doing well. Shrimp are active and one female is berried. The snails are good. They are out of my main tank and have not hurt any plants yet. They get fed along with the shrimp...

I do have crayfish already in my main tank. There are five cajun dwarf crayfish, one of them berried so hopefully there will be more soon. They are so neat. I was just thinking about adding some with the shrimp but like you said, probably not the best idea. I thought about maybe a 10g crayfish only tank but I might need more room than that, mayby a 20L at some point.

Anyways, thanks again and I'll get some pictures up asap!!!

The 20T RCS has turned in to a 75g RCS and now the 20T has yellow neos which is soon going to turn in to a 40B yellow shrimp tank. Here is the RCS tank as it is now....

Few of my shrimp...I want to get a 20L and start pulling the nicer ones...
