My Sulawesi tanks for Caridina dennerli and Caridina spinata

Unlike many people, I keep and reproduce successfully my Sulawesi shrimps (Caridina dennerli and Caridina spinata) in small tanks (30L), which are rather stable.

I have got my dennerli for almost a year now and the second generation is already reproducing. The spinata arrived in my tank three months ago, and the juveniles are already 1 centimeter long.

Yes I have a lot of Tylomelania (more than 250 of 7 species) of all sizes: only the young are in the small tanks, the adults are kept in a bigger well-filtered tank (100L) that I have entirely remade two days ago, and where I will place the Caridina dennerli in about two months, when the stones will be algae covered.

Are you absolutely sure no one in Italy succeeded in breeding Caridina spinata? I find it amazing because, just after 3 months in my tank, I have got a dozen of 1cm shrimplets.

From information in my possession seems to die, for no apparent reason, after a few weeks. Farmers who have tried to reproduce it are experts. The best hypothesis is the problem of housing made ​​in the areas of capture, in other words, Caridina arrive at your destination already compromised because kept at temperatures not suitable, unsuitable water parameters etc..

Unfortunately in Italy the import is done by anyone who does not even know the proper temperature.

Ok mine are not imported: they come from a fish farm not far from home.

My shrimps were born and raised in France, they never have been shipped: I drove to the breeder's farm to get them. So they have been acclimated just once.
