    Default black marks on crs.

    dear all,

half of my crs population have this kind of black marks on their red color area. some people might say that its blood red color, but i can tell u that its different, coz i also have some blood red rkk. this marks is more like at the surface of the skin. so is it a decease? or does it related to water parameter? or does it came from the gene? if its from the gene, is it good or bad?

i'm keeping my crs at ph of 6.8, gh of 5, temp of 24. and i never ever mix it with cbs or any other species that cross breed.

below are some pics of my crs:

I am sorry to say but it looks like Black Spot Disease to me. This is an bacterial infection, affecting the exoskeleton first and give the impression that black wholes appear. Treatment is like other bacterial infections, with the use of a antibiotic like Seachem Paraguard or JBL Furanol2. Please check our knowledge base, we have two articles on this. Good luck!

Many thanks imke for the id. Just now I already did 80% wc, clean up all the mess, gently clean the top soil, clean the filter, put in ketapang leaves, and dose beneficial bacteria. If thing hasn't got any better, I already have JBL furanol standing by. What's the different between furanol and furanol 2 by the way?

Yes I lost some shrimps, ussualy the victims are size 1cm. Its like I lost one shrimp every 4-5 days. My crs keep on berried actually, but I hardly spot any babies. I think its been 2-3 months like this.

They differ in the active agents, as the EU has changed laws and forbid the active agent of Furanol (Natrium-Nifurstyrenat) in hobbist's drugs in 2009. If I remember right, Furanol 2 with Nifurpirinol is now also on the blacklist.

    NutZilla,

Glad to see things are getting better.

Did you treat only with the things you mentioned, wc, general cleaning, leaves and the bacteria dose?
Or did you use the medication?

That's excellent! It's a great thing when you can avoid medications.

I know it's been two days since that last picture but do you notice any more improvements? Is their Activity level better or was it not affected?

One more question, did you do a deep cleaning of the soil. I notice if I stirr the soil lot's of black stuff comes out but I have always read not to disturb the lower layers of soils in shrimp tanks. I only have 1/2" to 1" of soil and it's about 8 months old.
