Default Unusual shrimp behavior and death

I had a tank of cherry shrimp, AMANO shrimp and ghost shrimps. They were doing fine until last 2 weeks. I introduced 10 yellow shrimps into the tank. About a week later my cherry shrimps started dying 5+ shrimps day by day. Then the AMANO shrimps died and the YELLOW shrimps died to.

Finally there was 1 yellow left and I moved it to another tank. I bought some more yellow shrimps/zebra/ninja/red nose/bee shrimps and add them together.

They the yellow and zebra died one by one. The bee are starting to died too. I found 2 dead bee shrimps the other days. Nothing wrong with the water just pH 7.7

    Symptoms:

-The shrimps become inactive, then started swimming upside down, then fall to the bottom and twitched their legs. It happen a couple of times before they died.
    -Ghost shrimps are still healthy
-Ninja and Red nose shrimps are doing fine. None died so far.

I am not sure if it's a contagious disease. Anybody have ever seen the same symptoms? Any suggestion is pretty appreciated.

    Thank you
    Ryan

I believe that either the yellow shrimps were sick or with some parasite, since they triggered the whole thing. Did you quarantine them?

may be some kind of poisoning?, you are using Co2?, what kind of substrate do you have?, copper is deadly to them.

hello, i have had this happen to me twice before, upon the introduction of yellow shrimp there were deaths of cherries the following weeks followed by the yellows, but I never figured out the problem. finally, I got a berried one but only two babies survived.

I had this happening to.. and asked a local LFS for some guidelines. My CRS after being introduced died 1 by one each day. I was advised to do a water change & test for Gh level. theory was that CRS's cannot take high GH. but is 7.7PH high for Bee Shrimps?

Symptoms were similar.Frantic swimming in circles and then twitching legs then dies. at first i thought they cannot molt so, i keep adding minerals when i top up purified water due to fan-mode cooling.

I did a 10-20% water change, acclimatize new batch of shrimps a little more longer. so far.. (cross my fingers and doing daily stocktake).. its day 3, no casualties yet.

just my 2 cents worth.. hope that could help you i guess.

Ryantube - The most likely explanation is that the yellows were carrying a disease that affected the rest of the shrimp. It could be bacterial or a parasite. Its too late now, but PraziPro and Seachem Paraguard are products you might consider using in the future on all new arrival while in quarantine. (have a small tank just for new shrimp, let them sit 2 weeks before moving them into your main tank). Read up on them, I know Paraguard can have side effects in shrimp if dosed too high or for too long. PraziPro is just for parasites (flukes, etc), wheras Parguard is more of a broad spectrum treatment that kills both bacterial infections and parasites.

Its also always possible that something got into your tank's water. If your tank has no lid, its not hard for aerosol sprays to drift into the tank, if even used a long ways away from the tank. I've even heard a story about an entire tank crashing after pesticides were sprayed outside the house.

Recca - 7.7 PH is way too high for CRS. You want a PH below 7 as they prefer acidic water. GH should be 4-6. KH should be close to 0.
