Post Imke's self made shrimp food (with receipt)

    Hello,

it was this Sunday only that I had enough time to make my new shrimp food. Here is what you need:

    • walnut leaves
    • banana tree leaves
    • soy flour (farina)
    • nori algae flakes
    • shrimp minerals (montmorillonite - what a word
    • agar agar

Rinse the leaves with boiled water and use a mixer to make them smaller. Add soy, nori and minerals.

The Agar Agar has to be boiled with water and get's thick after some minutes. It will prevent the food from dissolving and makes it sink easier in the tank. It is all from plants, nothing to worry about.

Mix with the rest of the ingredients and unfurl it on a baking tray. Let it dry for a couple of days. Thus, shrimp even love the fresh food...

one question. do you bake it? coz the agar is rich in nutrients which compliment the growth of fungus and bacteria.

    Hey Imke,

    Great recipe.

I was wondering if you freeze it afterwards for future use?
and where did you get your ingredients like banana leaf and walnut leaf.
    did you boil them first?

Thanks for the compliments As far as I tested, my CR and Yellows like that stuff too... After drying, I now store the food in some common brown glass bottles you perhaps know from drug stores. And for the leaves I have a local supplier, offering different stuff of natural and organic shrimp food (parts). I did not boiled them, but added boiling water for the mixture.

    Here is the accounting:

    soy powder: 2,50
    Walnut & Banana leaves 6,15
    Agar Agar: 2,80
    Nori flakes: 2,50
    MM: 1,20

    (and I haven't used everything I bought)

Hi Zeth, I am sorry I cannot tell you exact measurements and have not mentioned it on purpose: As I cannot vouch for somebody trying my receipt and later saying he/she has problems with the shrimp.
