Default Soil for Tylo sp. Orange snail tank

What would be a good soil for a Tylo sp. Orange snail? I have in the tank very little fine sand (0,8 – 1,2mm), a midium sized drift wood, small sized oak leaves and some round rocks. Need to add sand, does color play a role? Is darker colour prefered to e.g. white?

Sould one add calcium every now and then?

I've heard that, at first, they have some problems "walking" on a sandy substrate (but I'm not sure). About calcium, there are people who place smashed coral under the substrate to keep a constant high pH and a hard water.

These snails are heavy and have problems moving along substrate with small granules. They look funny on sand

I keep them in aquarium with crushed corals as a substrate. That increase hardness and pH.
And the snails move better with large-size coral pieces.

    Thank you all.

igorKanshyn can you please post a photo of the crushed corals as a substrate? What kind of water parameters do you have with the crushed corals?

In any case, I should change the sand and put new in... e.g. about 2,5 – 3,5mm is o.k.?

Im new with these snails ... I will need all the help you can give me...

Can I use Dennerle Nano shrimp gravel, Sulawesi black?

    Thanks!!!

Top pieces of gravel are 5-10mm in size, bigger works better.
As an example of my gravel, look at this video: Yellow shrimps

Water parameters will be different in different places, it's so connected to tap water.
In my case, tap water ph is 7.6-7.8 and crushed corals in sulawesi aquariums maintain pH to 8.0-8.2, it's not bad. Undergravel filter really helps with that.

2,5 – 3,5mm looks too small for me.

I haven't tried to keep these snails in ordinary aquarium with tap water, but they might will live and breed. Snails are supposed to be less demanding than sulawesi shrimps I have or fish.

The most important thing with that big snails, it's giving them enough food, they eat a lot.

Thanks igorKanshyn, I changed the fine sand to black-white gravel 4 – 6mm, and hope they will do better...

Me, too. Actually a mix of aragonite (coral) sand and play sand. They're doing fine.

I am having success with reverse osmosis water over aragonite sand (crushed coral sand?). Calcium comes from the aragonite. In my tanks the gH continues to climb as calcium from the aragonite leaches into the water. And aragonite buffers to high alkalinity without high GH, which is working for my Sulawesi shrimp and snails.

I don't think my Poso Orange snails like GH higher than maybe 8. My snails go inactive if I don't keep up on small, frequent water changes (maybe 3% every 2 or 3 days for a 40 gallon breeder tank) and low GH. Still working on a gradual WC schedule that keeps GH at a steady level without stressing my shrimp.

    Here are my water parameters...

    pH 8, dKH 9, GH 3, T.D.S. 315, Θ 28C

I also add very little calcium every now and then.
I also noticed that after 3 to 4 days from a WC they become inaclive, and that they are more active after a small water change. Thus Im looking at a 10 - 15% WC every 3 to 4 days.

    As I wrote above I am using a black-white granite 4 – 6mm and it looks o.k.

Know I am thinking of adding some "yellow" shrimp (Neocaridina heteropoda var "yellow") since I cant find Sulawesi shrimp here (Greece).
