I've heard of Caridina cf. propinqua, common name tangerine shrimp. Possibly the same thing as tangerine tigers? Sadly though I don't know anything about them beyond the name.

I saw a pic. They look like tigers with tangerine speckles on it. It was a pic of a juvenile, apparently they get more orange as they mature. The reason that I'm asking is my new tank is now cycling. (will update journal later) I wanted to put OEBT stock in there however the local shrimp shop owner's OEBT are not ready yet. However, he did have a batch of Tangerine Tigers for me if I wanted. Apparently he got the original stock from Germany. Just wanted to see if any one knew anything about these shrimps.

I think they might be different than tangerine shrimp. Can anyone confirm?

From the pic they look pretty close to tangerine shrimp but it can be very tricky to tell. There are some good pictures of them here http://www.crusta-fauna.org/shrimp-i...-cf-propinqua/ If they are indeed the same species then I would probably avoid them as they need brackish water to breed.

I think you're right blacksheep. I wasn't too thrilled with their looks anyways.

Are Tangerine described as Caridina thambipillai these days, rather than C. cf. propinqua?

After reading the coments I bought a batch of 30. I figure that I won't get a chance to purchase this variety especially locally.

They look more like Neocardinas with a few exceptions. The body is a bit more narrow like a tiger. They all have black body markings, how ever none of these stripes go all the way across each side. 1/2 way at the most. The colors range from dark orange to almost clear. Most of this batch is tangerine color or light orange. Most of them in this batch also have orange eyes only a few have black eyes. They are also smaller than typical yellows an snowballs.

I booted all the fish and anubias from a heavily planted 10g and now that tank is dedicated for them. This is a 1 year old plain gravel tank with a HOB AquaClear 20. Established and packed with Vals and Ludwigas. They seem to be fine after a week. With all the plants 30 shrimps pretty much dissapeared. (hate that!) I hope make some babies soon.

I found out that this batch is F1 from wild caught originating from China. I think these variety mixed with tigers or have some sort of tiger genes in their past, thus the black markings 1/2 stripes. I'll try and take some pics of mine when they get bigger. My crappy pics from the blackberry looks awful compared to some of the beautiful macro shots I've seen on this site.
