    Default super silent air pump?

Hi, since I am into the hobby, I am looking for a really silent and calm air pump for my tanks. I have already tested Sera, Silent mouse and more - and they could not fulfill my expectations. Since my tanks are in my office room, I am looking for a 99% solution

Can anyone recommend Haila V10/V20 or Eheim due to personal experience?

I have now around 200 L volume to move with UGF; thus I'd need a pump with ~500L/hour. Thanks for your inputs!

i'm using 2 halia pumps, one aco 2205 with 2 outlets. I place them under the table but i don't release alot of air thus it isn't loud at all. Probably just a notch.

I've not really tested sera so i can't really comment on the comparison. but these pumps are pretty silent at low level release of bubbles..

sorry to use your thread but since we're on the topic of air pumps..

i always have the misconception that the air are being "injected" into the water through the bubbles. But i read up and its not true. What it does is that it stimulate a water flow from the bottom to the top of the surface, allow more water to have access to oxygen at the top.

Thus am i correct to say with a proper filter outlet that allow water to be flowing back into the tank and it simulate a current from the bottom to the top, its as good as a air pump? thus in such cases, we don't even need an air pump at all?

Hi Imke - I can't recommend a specific make & model available in Germany, but can tell you to always look for air pumps with an even number of outlets. the reason is with 2 outlets the vibrating arm becomes sound and vibration insulated when there are rubber air baffles on each side of the arm, which is also why a 2 outlet pump is close to the price of a similar watt one outlet pump, since all they added was a second baffle. another quiet design is where the pump has an adjustment knob that varies the current going to the vibrating arm, for lower airflow and sound elimination.
so I would look to buy a 2 outlet pump with an adjustment knob that is airflow rated higher than your application, then simply adjust it down to the desired airflow - this should give you with the least possible amount of noise and vibration for the money, and still leave you with more power should your airflow needs grow in the future. if you only need one outlet, simply use a rigid airline "T" connector to join the 2 outlets of airflow to a single air tube. the opposing pressure coming from the other baffle will not degrade the pump life at all since it's always generated at alternate moments. - Enjoy!

    Hi,
all air pumps will be rather noisy in comparison to a normal pump. Really quite air pumps are the JBL "pro silent" series. They are pricey but durable and I use them myself for years with positive experiences so far. But for larger tanks than 25l I try to use tiny submerged pumps with 3Watts or so.

    best regards,
    Robert

Thanks for you detailed replies, both The last time I went to a pet store and I asked to hear the Eheim pump running, they said it is not possible as they have no free power outlet

So had a good laugh and went without buying; a pity I don't have a good LFS around here...

A tad late, but I'm using pumps from Gex. Comes with the adjustable knob and dual port outputs should you need them. Quiet enough for me to place one in my bedroom and doesnt affect me at all even when I sleep.
