    Default Losing Crystal Red

    Hello,

Me and a friend have now begun with crystal red and she has lost more than 10 shrimp, in just a week. All were found inside the filter, a Tetra Whisper 10. The intake of the filter is covered with a very fine screen. Has anyone experienced this? Any idea what might be happening?

    Thanks a lot.

Did she use any surface skimmer? might be the problem. and did she cycle the tank properly wrong introduction of crs will harm them badly
If keeping Exotic shrimps are easy then there will not be Exotic prices.

No surface skimmer. She did cycle it properly, for around 30 days. We both start in the same day, and Iīve had no problems with my crs. The main difference between our tanks is that her water temp is around 27 - 28 C and mine was around 26 (24 -25 now with a diy cooling fan), and I also use a Eheim Liberty 100 ans she uses a Tetra Whisper 10.

Do you think they may be running away from the hot water?

Well, I already made a diy cooling fan for her cube, same as mine.

So, the temperature should be adjusted in a couple of days.

Also, after the disaster, she covered the whole whisper with a pantyhose,
so thereīs no way shrimp can get in.

    Water parameteres are:

    NH4:0
    NO2:0
    PH:6.6
    KH: ?? (getting a test)
    GH: ?? (getting a test)
    Temp: 28C
CO2: ?? Ista Disposable Can (getting a drop checker)

    Thanks for the help.

All the dead shrimps were found stuck in the filter. The reason may be your filtering system is overkill, sucking is too strong. The shrimps may be suck and trap on the water inlet and unable to free itself. Maybe you may want to hook up a sponge around the inlet.

I donīt think thatīs the problem. The filter inlet was covered with a pantyhose. Also itīs regulated to low flow.

Yesterday on my other tank, where I keep Potimirim shrimp, I found
two dead shrimp inside the whisper 10. Looks like they like to hang
    inside the filter.

Do the shrimps show any kind of behavor thats different that yours? GH is perhaps the most important once your tank is cycled.

her water level might be too high...
as in... where the water comes out of the filter is too close to the surface of the water and the shrimp might have been going towards the source of water that was "feeding" their tank.

I accidentally filled my tank just enough to the bottom of where the water comes out and found a shrimp trying to climb up the spout, but it wasn't strong enough to pull itself up over into the filter.

other than that i can't think of anything else.

Almost all shrimp can climb into the outflow of an HOB filter even while the it's flowing if the water is high enough just like acer said. That plus her water being a little warm could be the problem...The shrimp climb in then succumb to the heat
