my crazy tigers

Hello friends,

in an other thread I notify you, tell more about my tigers.
Well, I have to start from the very first then.-

I fall in love with shrimps in 2008 and since I keep some crazy tigers.
I doing from scratch without any knowledge about aquaristic and ive done many faults but always it is going on step by step.


In march or april happened that I got a few interesting, multicouloured tiger-shrimps from a female breeder in germany, wich want to stay unknown. She got some black tigers from Kai Quante/ Germany and kept them together with some deep blue tigers ( from Roland/ Germany) above 2 years without any selection. Beside selection by several crayfish, I suppose .

At first I had set 2 little tanks, about 20 liter each, for the tigers. That must be enough for shrimp keeping, I thought.



But after a short while, 2 tanks more arrived because I liked to separate some colours and secure the “line” ( please help, how ist the English word for meaning german “Stamm”?)
Ok, but its certain that I never want more than 4 tanks in my livingroom!

Here are a few of the beautiest to me, I start with breeding.

monika - Nice Tigers! Tiger Shrimp (even regular Tigers) are hard to come by in the states; I think I see more sales for OE Blue Tigers than other types of Tigers. In my own Tiger collection, I have Super Tigers, OE Blue Tigers, and Black Tigers. Keep us updated.

are they all tigers? some looks like bee/tiger hybrids. :?

Yes, it seems for me, too, that a few of them mixed up with a other couloured phenotyp.
There are two or three looks more than tiger/bee than others.
But at all it doesn´t matter or change anything. At all they are Caridina cf. cantonensis and no hybrids beetwen two shrimp-species( as like shrimps called Red Bee ; in Germany a well known importer give info that higher grade crs are hybrids between Caridina cf. cantonensis and Caridina breviata, but also is an other issue^when we have to say 'hybrid>... ).

All of a few hundred offspring of these tigers until now ( F3) looked like different coulered tigers. Not one shrimp look more a bee like.
Let me say it again, it is not important for me and the beauty of shrimps, if there two phenotyps were mixed before i owened .

Ok, lets going on with F1.
The first shrimplets arrived after a few month.
But I had hard troubles with water conditions and so lost more than a half of parent stock and most of shrimplets.
So I got only a few shrimplets.
Most of them look like “nominat”, blue OE and light blue darkeyed.






a smal number were “Orange OE Tiger”






3 or 4 were “Black Tiger OE". But the blue colour of them were
peculiar to me. They were not black, they are blue and dark blue seems black if they older.







may same number were Black Tiger with whitness. I was really wondrous about, at first.














Do you know why “normal” Black Tiger you know (most female and more by lower grades because the black covers white) have whitness, too?

Before f2 is arrived I set up 4 bigger sized tanks..... breeding in small tanks was to hard I learned.

Below are the juvenile f2.
I made a collage for better overview.
The offspring rate for shrimps you can see is about 30%.
Others looks like other tiger.

Beautiful BT! I was wondering if you have all of your tiger shrimps together because I noticed the picture of your BT with the orange tiger. I'm just asking because I plan on buying BTs and was unsure if the blondes or non blues would mess with the "blue genes" of the tiger shrimp. Thank you very much!

Hello Phanizzle,

the shown tigers above are from the same strain.
Orange ones bears genes for black and blue phen also, that’s why I kept them together first.
But generally I can’ t recommend housing normal tiger or other coulered tigers from different sources, together with special breed unless backcrossing is desired.
