I have my tank and equipment all running now and am following a similar water change schedule as it was posted in the fastest tank cyle with ADA aquasoil. (shrimpnow.com/forums/showthread.php?t=565)
Here are what I've gathered as ideal parameters:
Temperature: 22-23C (71F - 74F)
pH: Slightly acidic, therefore definitely below 7.0; 6.6-6.8 ideal?
Nitrates - 5 ppm or less
Ammonia & Nitrites 0 obviously
Does the kH (hardness) matter much?
Please comment on these numbers, I want to bring my tank to as close to an ideal situation as possible. In my situation, temperature is not an issue because this will be in a basement where the room's temperature will be a few degrees lower than in the tank and heating it is easier than keeping it cool.

Your water should be clean, soft, slightly acidic and cool!
