Default Aquatic Bamboo or Lucky Bamboo

Alright I just came up with an idea that I want to try out.

I have an ALL cherry red shrimp tank right now (ori. Taiwan). I have Taiwan moss on the bottom of the tank and other plants in the background. Here's what I want to do.. I want to make this kind of like an oriental theme (crouching tiger, Hero, etc..) I want to use Bamboo. You know those bamboo you see in Chinatown or in chinese restaurants.. Would these plants work if they are fully underwater? Does anyone know the parameters for these plants?
Anyone have experience OR tried them?

I dont think it will work. Because I have those curly bamboo that's the lucky type (or that's what they called it when I bought them). Only the roots need to be submursed. But you can do what they do in betta vases. And suspend the bamboo with chop stick. You just need to trim the roots every now and then.

I have actually planted bamboo plants I bought from the local market in my community fish tank. It is still alive and green after four months of being completely under water. They have roots at the bottom of the stalk and have not grown much at all but the leaves have not turned yellow or brown either. Let me know how it works out in a shrimp tank.

    Hola José Maria,
    bienvenido al foro de ShrimpNow.com!

You are right, the lucky bamboo is no bamboo at all but a large west African stem plant. But you can keep it semi-submerged for at least a few months. The plant grows well even if the roots are in a bare tank without gravel. I keep one of these "lucky bamboo" in a glass of water on my window sill. Only the roots are under water. It grows well if I don't forget to add regularly a bit of liquid fertilizer.

    Hasta luego

Yeah, you are describing the hydroponic way to grow a plant. It can do it that it´s a plant which lives on wet soils into the rain forest...

Anyway... how do you know my name???

I love people who speak several languages... it´s a oint of a free mind.

    Hi Xema,
your real name was once mentioned in another forum (killies.com). So I knew that Xema is only the short form of José Maria. BTW, I learned Castiliano at school years ago and so I speak a little bit Castiliano, too. But I have to practise it more because I can only understand it more or less well anymore but it is hard for me to write it. Your web site is a good way for me to practise my language skills.

Yes, this Dracaena sanderiana comes from west African rainforests, so wet conditions seem to be no problem for it. But I keep it only on my window sill, not in my tanks. I have more than enough lovely swamp and real water plants.

    best regards

    Robert

If we are about "lucky bamboo", do you know if it is poisonous? My cat eat it sometimes. I know some Dracaena are poisonous, but don't know this "lucky" one
Sorry for a bit off topic.
