Hi! I have a tank 150x40x50, with discus, red cherrys, tigers and yamato shrimps. in my tank I have external filtration, and the problem is all the shrimplets of red cherry going pulled into the filter. anyone knows a solution to protect shrimps from the canister? *sorry for my english* :embarasse

Welcome to the forum.:)
Kensfish (google search it) has sponge prefilters that go over the intake on your canister filter. Or you can just make on yourself.

You can wrap the input of the cannister with a fine net or sponge.

Are you sure your discus and yamatoes won't eat your shrimplets?

I only have seen 1 discus eating 1 RCS, and the shrimp was already dead! Otherwise they don't care about the shrimps, even in lunch time!

Personally, yamotos would eat shrimplets usually unless they are dead. However, I think discus do eat shrimps and shrimplets. Maybe you are just lucky for now. Hope they don't go crazy and start feasting on your shrimps. How big is your discus?

I heard that once your shrimps molt and when their shell is still soft, they're very vulnerable to Discus attack. My friend bought 50 pcs of cherries for his discus tank. A few months later, none left.

My discus are big enough to eat RCS with 2 bites! but they don't care about the shrimps. sometimes people join neons and the discus don't care about them too! it happens!
