This is my first tank. Please post your comments so that I can improve on it.
What I put in it…
1) Tank size 2 feet.
2) Taiwan moss - back moss wall.
3) Peacock moss - right moss wall, on the wooden log, stumps and mesh.
4) Weeping moss - left moss wall.
5) 2 loaches.
6) 5 L CO2 tank at 3 bubbles per sec (timer set 10 hours a day).
7) 55 watts Maqum PL light (timer set 10 hours a day).
8) Jebo Canister running 24/7 at full throttle.
The water temperature is kept between 25 – 27 degrees as room is air-conditioned 24/7. There is currently no fishes in the tank as I am only interested in keeping shrimps. :D
I current have about 5 Yamato shrimp, 6 Tiger shrimp, 5 Bee shrimps and 2 Wood shrimp.

I am planning to clear all the shrimp and go into breeding CRS and to start with grade B and C. I have a few questions to ask before venturing into that area.
Question:
1) Is the size of my tank to small to breed CRS? (2 feet tank.)
2) Is the condition as described above suitable for breeding of CRS and if there is any thing that I need to change?

Hi,
Nice tank with a varieties of moss.

However I doubt if loaches are shrimp friendly what species are they?
3 Bps for a 2ft moss only tank ? Then you might have to montior the Co2 regularly, might be too high with population increase later.

thanks for the advise. I have reduce it to 2 bps.
Thought higher bps can make the rate of growth faster as there seems to be quite alot of plants.

The two types of loaches that I have are hill stream loach and auto...

Hey guys... Does keeping of loaches affect the breeding of shrimps?

I guess Hill stream loaches and Otos are all right.

Just a thought, I am thinking the CO2 input can get lower like Fruitpie mention in CRS breeding Strategy btw he's using 0.5 bps. You might want to check your PH levels, and do the relevant adjustments.

I am giving co2 at 1 bubble per 2 sec. Still my moss grows well and consider fast.

Hmm... thanks for the reply. I have lowered my CO2 rate. Will be checking on the PH levels.

Do you guys think that water currents in a tank affect breeding?

Why not setup tank 1st before putting the shrimps in. At least everything is fully grow (moss) then the CO2 can be reduce or remove from the tank. Is that a bad suggestions?? Coz I'm setting a shrimp tank as well.

If you want your shrimp breed well. It is good to make it as non-fish tank. Not because of the Oto or loach will attack the shrimp or shrimplet. Just because of the fishes will stress out the shrimp.

You can try to up another tank and compare. Fish + shrimp and just shrimp tank only. Check which tank with more shrimplets.

That is a very nice piece of driftwood.

I am curious to see what your little pillars of moss will look like once they grow in.

I haven't considered doing any structures like that, so I will look forward to seeing your tank in the future when the wire mesh is covered by the moss.

Yah I like the drift wood alot too. I once saw another drift wood that is very nice, it resembles the landscape of the last stronghold in "Lords of the Ring 3". The size is for a three feet tank and the drift wood cost S$28. Abit ex.

The little moss pillars will grow into a chirstmas tree like look. Sorry cant show it to you as I have removed them after find my CRS got stucked and killed in between them. If you like to do something like that without causing harm to your CRS, you can use chopsticks as the stem of the plant.

Sorry to dig up an oldish post, but it was either that or post a new one. Are you speaking from experience or do you just think the otos would stress out shrimp and that this would result in less production? Anyone else have an opinion on this?
