Hello everyone,
I put in the tank (100 l) dedicated to the Cardinal six Tylo Orange for four days.
The first two days were very active, now seems to have gone into hibernation (one I think is dead). Today one of Tylo has given birth. The child was already dead.
Values that can be measured at the time:
Temperature 27-28 degrees
ph:
Sera Test 8,3
Tetra Test 8.4
PH 8.6 survey tool
conductivity 350
NO2 0
No3 5
If someone can give me some advice?

Are you sure they don't have leeches?
Did you acclimate them when you put them in the new tank?
Do they have eaten since you have them?

Your water parameters seem right. Remove quickly the one that seems dead: smell it you will have no doubt!

Hi, Kobal
It was done for acclimatization. They ate a piece of blanched zucchini Saturday. Today I put a carrot blanched.
The Leeches seem absent.
The clam and the snail seems dead even orange, but has the obercolo closed.

The leeches can hide in the shells. They made the Tylomelania become lethargic.

To be sure the snail is dead, smell it, you will know at once! A dead snail stinks awfully!

Do your snails wake up and rush to the food when you put vegetable in the tank?

Tylomelania become less active when they grow old.

How do I know if there are leeches hidden in the shell?
I must try with water and salt?
If yes, what concentration?
My TYLO are all adults, approximately 6 cm, but I can not determine the age '.

When the Tylo out of its snail, you can often see, especially on orange specimen, the leech (which is brown) stuck to his head, often under the eye or under the trump, for the ones that I have seen.

I have already treated the leeches with salt, but you must not let the snail in the salted water for too long, it's testing. I can't tell you the salt concentration, I do it by guesswork.

I wouldn't treat them without being sure.

Hi, Kobal
do not have leeches stuck in the visible parts. It remains only to check that they are stuck on the inside of the shell, but I think 'that this assumption is a little' more 'difficult. However I try to take some pictures tomorrow.

Hi,
In the first four pictures show the TYLO active for two days.
In the third picture the little Tylo was born dead.
The fourth image is TYLO today (a little too active in the feed).503750385039504050415042

Hi

The last two pictures have been taken today? Your snails don't seem to be so lethargic...

Hi,
The last two were taken this morning. They have not moved all day. The snail was closed for two days and 'dead (the smell was terrible). Maybe I'm used to very active gastropods?

This morning 'dead TYLO you see the last picture!
And 'as if they were slowly dying!

In the bath I also have three yellow TYLO not seem to show any kind of discomfort.

Ok so you can try the salt bath (no more than 10 minutes), if there are leeches in the shell, they should get out and die.

ok, tomorrow I feel the salt bath and see if that works better. Thank you!

This morning seems to be a little better! They are more 'active than usual.
Last night I put a tablet if the bottom and are eaten.
See to it soak in water and salt for precautionary reasons, but at this point I think it's a problem of adaptation and adjustment to new values.
Unfortunately, and I do not 'know the possible values that were held previously.

Only one of Tylo had two leeches!

Glad to read it.

It's better getting rid of the leeches before they have the time to reproduce.

Hope your snails will get better now.

Ok!
Yesterday they were very active! Let's see now!
In a few days make my treatment in water and salt to make sure you have them all removed.
Thank you.

It is always better! Now they feed and are more 'active than usual. When can I have new photos.
After how much time they give birth to small?

Hi

Sorry I can't tell you how much time it takes these snails to have babies: at home, I have at least one new baby each two days, but I have a lot of Tylos. My sp. "orange" are the less prolific between all the species I have.

From what I have read, it's around 1 baby each 4/6 weeks, but it's more often in my tank.

Is there any way to sex the orange tylos?

maxgl68

Hi,
there are no differences between male and female.

Hi

Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing whether the snail is a male or a female from the outside. Unless you have the chance to see the Tylomelania giving birth to a baby...

Hi, Kobal

Yesterday I saw an orange TYLO that mated with a yellow!
To you they have never hybridized?

kobal
18th Dec 2011, 07:39 AM
Hi

I don't know if they can hybridize. All I can say is that every time I saw two snails mate, they were two of the same variety.

Do they prefer their own variety when they have the choice? That's an interesting question!

I have 7 species of Tylomelania in the same tank for more than two years now, and I still have babies that look like their parents, no new color has appeared.

Perhaps the five TYLO orange are all females?

One thing to consider when tylos aren't active is if the tds or hardness. Get to high..20% water change with distiller water helps alot...this helps my tylos alot ..they get very sluggish and after this very active

Hi

I don't think it's the fact that it's distilled water that matters, just the water change.

My Tylos are very active, breed like rabbits and my conductivity is 450/500 µS (I have already tried to increase it to 800 µS without any problem).

However, I change 20% of the water each week. This seems to stimulate them, even to give birth to babies.
