I've been keeping OEBTs for about 6 months now, but it wasn't until recently that I spotted a couple red ones in the mix. I currently see 2 distinctly red babies, about 3 weeks old. They look totally different from the other fry as far as body markings and color. Is it normal for these shrimp to pop out red babies? I know that the mature blue females display some red but I've never actually seen a red baby until now.

I'm interested to see how these babies will turn out as they mature. If anyone has any experience with this color anomaly, please share your thoughts.

Here's a couple picture for reference:

Did they cross with your tangerine tigers or something? Really odd looking OEBT man.

Wow, that's very interesting. I've never seen that sort of coloration before, considering they didn't mingle with another variation/shrimp. Were they from DK? If so, maybe shoot her a message to see if she's seen some like that. Nonetheless, a new breeding project for you!

I do keep my OEBTs with a few Tangerine Tigers... I'm pretty sure these fry were not from hybridization between the two sp. because the female blues were already berried when I moved them to the TT tank.

I got some from DK but some were from a local guy here in the Bay Area. Isn't she a member here?

Colin,

I'll try to take a pic for you soon. Been busy with work lately. It's since developed stripes like regular tigers. It's still got some red to i though.

Here's a new one I just found yesterday. Looks to be a blond OEBT with blue stripes instead of black. How cool is that!?!
