Are double T5 80w bulbs over a 13 inch (34cm) deep tank, too bright for CRS shrimp?

They will sit about 8 inches (20 cm) above tank.

Will shrimp suffer if it's too bright?

Does the light coming on instantly shock shrimp (I noticed when my normal lights come on in morning shrimp have a little freak out)

(I'm asking this separately here, as it's kind of. Different question to my other lighting post.)

I think If algae is growing, it is too bright.
If most of your shrimp is hiding, then it is too bright. You should always have some hiding place for them
My shrimps also startled when light is first switched on.

Hi ty, for insight: what lights do you use?

Problem is i don't have it yet, so I don't know if algae will grow or not?

I need to choose what lights I get for my rack and once if bought it that's that!

It's either 1 or 2 bulbs.... Doesn't seem many people here with much experience with Lighting issues :(

It also depends on whether you are keeping a planted tank (aquascaping or not) , It require higher intensity if you are growing plants. This is actually a ratio of light per litre of water. ( you can find it on google)
I am using a boyu 18w ( 3 tubes: 2 white & 1 blue) and in addition I use an ikea desk light fitted with 11w white light to my 36L tank. Some shrimps are ok with them but there is a tendency of raising the temperature by 1 degree..
so there are many things to consider

my ada 90P shrimp tank has 150W metal halide + 2x 36W PC over 45cm tall tank. shrimps are happy.

60P has 54w over 30cm tall at 6" above water line and shrimps are happy as well.

Lighting is too much of an issue, its if your water isnt balanced itll cause you to get algae super fast

Thanks people, it seems that my lighting wont be too much as long as i have hiding places.

I wont be using co2 and they will not be heavily planted:

However each tank will have flame moss on a ceramic tube pyramid on one side and a Java fern or windelov on ceramic tube pyramid on the other (I might want to grow some carpet plants later).

What 80W T5 tubes do you suggest 6500K a combination etc.....

Another point is the volume ratio suggested online doesn't compute:

It says I have to use minimum of 0.5 watts per litre.

I've got 3 tanks in a row, each 60L, so 180L in total.

These 3 sit in a row under 2 (5ft) T5s each 80w.

1) does that mean I have 160w watts?

2) do I assume that I'm using 160 watts for 60L or 160 watts for 180L?

3) confused :(

WPG rule is a really broken and old way to do things in the hobby, it is only a rough rule that doesnt mean much in terms of overall health of a tank. I would drop the whole WPG idea and go for whatever you want. Ive had tanks from 6-10 WPG and some even more without issues as long as you can keep water parameters in check all is good. Without plants the lights are only there for you to be able to look into the tank :)

I've decided on 2 x 49w T5 1449mm tubes

So on each level I'm going to use:

Philips de luxe pro 965 tube (6800k) + Philips de luxe pro 965 tube (6800k)

Or

Philips de luxe pro 965 tube + one of the following: 3000k, 3500k, 4000k

Do you chaps mix & match or just stick with one type?

Any good reason to add a 3000k or 3500k bulb?

Got these ideas from James Planted Tank, just can't find grolux in 49w version :(
