Hi

I'm moving to a new house.. about 3 miles away from here.

I will of course be bringing my tanks with me.

I've taken this opportunity to buy my selv a new 85G. with a aluminium stand, and 2x125W HQL pendants.....

My main planted tank is also an 85g, so I need to move the contents to the new tank.

I have 4 shrimp tanks, that i need to take with me as well..
1 18g
1 15g
1 8g
1 5g

These I am considering moving as they are, but just remove most of the water. I would think that it is impossible to catch all the shrimp... especially the shrimplets.

We get the house on the 1. of february, but luckily we have a few extra days in our apartment before we have to be out.

How would you guys go about doing all these tanks?

Any advice, experiences etc would be appreciated...

Hi Symbiot, moving to your new place should be nice if you get more room for more tanks. ;)

I had to move 10 gallon tanks before, long ago when I had fish, not shrimp. I actually tried it two different ways.

The first was to remove the fish into a large tupperware container, remove most of the water into large water jugs, move the tank to the different location, add the old aquarium water back in, then finally move the fish back in.

The other way I did it was to remove most of the water except for a low layer that the fish needed, put the rest of the water in large containers, transported the tank with the fish still in it, set it up, then put the water back in.

I can tell you, even with 10 gallon tanks, which is not all that large, both methods were a big pain in the behind! For one thing, the aquarium is quite heavy, even with the small amount of gravel and water. And you have to support the tank properly so you don't place undue stress on the seams.

Be warned that the water in the tank will slosh around a lot, even when you carefully try not to move it too much. So unfortunately, the job isn't all that easy. Another problem that could come up, is that the water temp could change, but since you're not moving that far away, it won't be so bad.

Sure hope your move goes smoothly! :sweatdrop :p
