Hi Baruch Mor,
these shrimps look interesting and I would continue breeding with them. In Germany there was a mutation in a tiger shrimp line a few years ago and this guy got black tiger shrimps. Now we have dark blue and solid black tiger shrimps here. It means that such mutations are possible.
I would like to see the normal, wild-type shrimps of this species. BTW, I guess this black coloration is recessive. At least the black tigers are recessive and hard to breed.

They seems very much like those Malayan shrimps we have here in Singapore. They tend to change color according to their surroundings and mood. When I bought them, they turned blue like the color of the pail. When I released them into the tank, Some turned brown, black and sometimes translucent.
What are their eggs and offsprings like?
Low order or high order form?
Anyone thinks similarly?

the youngsters look like their parents, no larva stage. i guess i call it low order - right?

No, think that would be high order. Low order have free swimming stage. High order are minitures of adults. Right?

True, High order shrimps offsprings are minitures of the adults. I guess they are not malayan shrimps we have here because they are low order types. But there are cases where by the offsprings managed to survive in fresh water and turn into shrimplets.
Another new species or mutation maybe?

Hi baruch nice to see you
This shrimp actually looks like a Neocaridina sp. to me. "Wild type" Neocaridina can become very dark. Body shape and rostrum length/shape looks like Neocaridina

Is it possible to post any pictures of the original plain shrimps that look like bee shrimps? Maybe they could be identified.
Thanks baruch mor :)

I think they may be black cherries.

Looks as an old and matured cherrys, they use to turn themself quite dark in color.
I have been selecting from wild type cherry some ones with black patterns, and at the moment this is all I got.

These black shrimps look like Caridina cf. babaulti. Recently I managed to buy some from a local fish store. One of the females was berried and after some time I was seeing very tiny little shrimplets clinging to the filter foam. The parents all died out for some reason :undecided but almost all the youngsters survived.
All the youngsters are now almost 1cm in length. None of them are yet showing the dark brown/black colour of the parent. Some are almost tranaparent while others have stripes and others are dotted with little brown spots.

The young shrimps grow very slowly. Here's a shrimplet after 2 months.

The shrimps are now around 6 months old and have grown to 1cm. Some are showing stripes

Others are pale almost transparent

Really hope that the youngsters turn black.
This is how their parents actually looked. I wasn't able to take a picture of mine but a friend of mine who bought a couple of these black shrimps from the same batch did..

hmmm
tell me if my theory is wrong but thoosse look like very old shrimp.
i know with the red cherry really old female can display a so solid red at end of their life, you can almost say it is black.
let see how the fry will be, but considering the pic i have some doubt.

Don't think that the shrimps were old cherry shrimps. The shrimp pictured above could be an old shrimp but it was improbable for a whole batch of shimps to be dark because of old age.
The lfs from which they were bought had a whole consignment of these shrimps and they were all dark brown/black.
I still believe that the srimps are not Neocaridina heteropoda but Caridina cf. babaulti. Really hope that the shrimps will eventually turn dark brown/black to confirm that such dark coloratin wasn't an abnormality.
The dark variety of tha babaulti can be seen pictured here.

Some of the juvenile shrimps are now beginning to turn dark brown. Others are still pale while others and even show the stripe pattern of the Caridina babaulti striped.

I have taken a couple of pictures of the same black adult shrimps that my friend is keeping.
I was surprised to see that these shrimps are now much more lightly coloured. They have turned almost purple. Hope the pictures help to identify to which species they belong.
The first picture shows how dark these shrimps were in the beginning. The other 3 show some recent pictures of the same shrimp.
Actually they do look like Neocaridina heteropoda!!

This is my black shrimp. it strangely changes color from time to time.
its red and black in this photo.
when I bought them, they were sold in orange, red and black .
the red ones look similar to cherry shrimps.. but they look more like malayan shrimps.. with the golden line across the back. I can't find them in my LFS anymore though.

Actually, I think they may be cherries. My tank has had yamato (amano) and cherry (normal red ones). My yamatos died long ago but my cherries kept going. Over time, the population went to this color.
Not the best photo, but these were just pulled from my tank. The dark ones really are that dark (a chocolate brown)
