Best filter

Hi all,

Have a 30/40 liter tank. Wondering what the best filter would be.. Preferably a internal and obtainable in Singapore. Any suggestions?

best filter would be a canister filter, eheim would be one of the best brands. But only if you have no problem with its cost.Most breeders just use sponge filters, but i'm not as confident as they are so i still use canister filters

Personally I like aquaclear hang on back filters because they hold a huge amount of filter media and so have tremendous surface aria. Just make sure you put a sponge or stainless steel mesh cover over the intake to protect the baby shrimp.

I'm sure canister filters are a little better, but as far as the price goes I haven't found a more efficient filter yet.

I am using large sponge filters in my breeding tanks driven by air. The high dissolved oxygen content of the water from the sponge filters helps increase the chances of baby survival, it also keeps the shrimp very healthy looking.

I am using ISTA brand sponge filters rated for twice the tank size (sponge rated for 100 liter tank in a 50 liter tank). It works good for me, no problems as long as I squeeze the sponges out every month during water change.

Lots of people use the eheim canister filters as well, stuffed full of bio media. The biological filtration is the most important, which is why sponge filters work so well.

Thanks for all your feed back and reviews. Shall look into them more. Gets very confusing when there are so many products and the sales assistant always tries to sell the most expensive one.

Try to find (or just look) Haqos EXPRO 500.
I find it very good for smaller aquariums, because you can store lot of bio media in filter, it has adjustable flow and filter is cheep.

I am using it on 65l tank and it works perfectly, so I will sure use it on my next shrimp tank.

Do you have a pic of the filter hanging? How bulky is it...?

I will make some pictures.
Tank is 60x40(heigt)x26 in cm.
Filter - 30,5(height, with tubes)x13x19(depht,with tubes), also in cm.
Hope you get me right.
Filter do not need to be hanging - it can stand on his own.

Ah kook thanks for the pic! When you say bio media that's the stone type filtration?... Which is best sponge or the stone type...?

Filter has 4 media baskets and comes with media (sponge-active carbon-ceramic rings x2) but I switch that to sponge-fine sponge-eheim substrat pro-easylife symbiont.

Helps alot. Only thing is buying it!... Doesn't seem widely available...

It is Made in China product, so it is closer to you (Singapore) than to me (Europe).

Probably some shop around you have it on stock.

If don't find that filter, and if you want something cheap and good, maybe you could consider some HOB, like Atman HF-0400 (or 0600) or SunSun HBL-501 (or 701). They have big space for media, adjustable flow, can easy put sponge over intake...

My babies have started to survive since i added a large sponge filter to the tank ,so this and a canister is perfect i think .
