Hello all! I would like to share some photos of my shrimp. I took these with a borrowed Canon T1i, hopefully I can get my own DSLR one day and practice for the next calendar competition! :D

Hi,
Your shrimps are very nice, the first two BKK pictures i believe are males(not sure maybe they are still young and just looking in one angle). Also i don't want to sound negative but the less you stress them the better as i see some reddish/brownish dark spot on them which is i think caused by stressed and is never good. GL!

You're right, I first noticed the brown patches a few days ago after I did a water change. I thought it was the saddle showing through, but then the patch was on the tail too. Maybe there was an imbalance after the WC; I'll keep an eye on them and my parameters. Thanks for pointing it out that it may be stress related! Now hopefully I don't end up killing them, I've waited so long and saved/spent so much for them!

Don't loose hope, this is becoming normal for me specially with bkk that i acquire and not born and raised myself. As we speak i might have 3 of them having this right now BUT they are still very active and breeding with the females which is my goal for them to do. Weird thing though all the 3 i mentioned and most that i had in the past that had this and eventually die have all been males. I had one that had it for a long time, a span of few months and what i did was breed him as much as i can with crs/cbs females so that your money's worth is not gone to waste. I would say the same thing with others who can't buy 50-100 pcs for a breeding program, i would put as many females as i can with the males and start from there. You will have hundreds of mitchlings(hybrids) in a short period of time and from there you can start your TB colony. I have 3 males right now that has this sickness and is a father of maybe over a dozen crs/cbs females regular and hybrid.

Donny , you have some very nice looking shrimp , I love the red legs . If you ever want to part with any just let me know. You are with in driving distance and I would be willing to pay more for the fact I would see what I'm getting and I know they would make it home.

Thanks for your input. A few of them still have the patches, but they do seem to be okay. I have removed all my male CRS and am keeping only female CRS with my TBs (per your advice ;)).

Thanks! I usually donate shrimp to the Madison Area Aquatic Hobbyist auction, held during the monthly meetings. This helps generate a small amount of funds for the club. I will PM you the details for the next meeting - in fact, the next meeting will be on "Freshwater Invertebrates" by msjinkzd.

That is the kind of setup I hope to have one day.
Looking at your Red rubies, I feel more at ease that mine have those similiar black spots on them.
Freaked out a bit cause I thought they were sick.
Do you keep your BTOE in a different tank?
What parameters do you keep them in and taiwans?

Yes, I was a bit worried about the dark spots too; MananaP mentioned his had spots as well, and may be caused by stress. But he also said his are breeding normally, as are mine. Just keep an eye on yours and see how they do.
I do have the BTOEs in their own tank; however, I had to resort to crossing with a female Super Tiger because I had all male BTOEs.
BTOEs are in Akadama; pH ~ 7.4, TDS = 200, GH = 4-5, KH = 0-1
TBs in NEW Amazonia; pH ~ 6.4, TDS = 180, GH = 4-5, KH = 0-1

Hi Imke, thanks for your kind words. I do like the Wine Reds very much, and they are breeding quite well right now. Kazuya is right, the sponge filters are Azoo brand. These particular ones are rated for 75 gallon (284L) tanks, and are quite large; I had to cut them to make them fit my tanks.

Donny, is that AquaSoil that you are using?
Yes, I use Aquasoil in some of my tanks.
Are you breeding to get bigger btoe?
Also are your bkk and wr breeding? I would love to get some
No, I am not selectively breeding for bigger shrimp size; simply for numbers and coloration/pattern. My BKK and WR are breeding; however, I will not be selling any anytime soon as I am aiming to build my colony.

Nice shrimps bro, are is the breeding program going?
Thanks. Going well with the Bee Shrimp; unfortunately I lost my Black Tigers and Blue Tigers, just something not right with them. I suspect there was an infection that was transfered between the tanks, which ultimately wiped them out. I have plans to redo those tanks and maybe get more OEBTs/BTOEs or keep only Bee Shrimp now - do more pattern selection.

So Santa i know it is early but i wish he would send me a good camera this year lols. Yeah seems hard to get a hand on black tigers here and blue tigers, i have been waiting to get my hands on a few but all i could get was super tiger so off to my shrimp lab and one of my hybrid cbs is carrying eggs and the dad is super tiger so i will see what comes out of this.

Thanks. I probably shouldn't have used the same net for the tanks. The OEBTs started giving me problems earlier and I thought I had cured it, but unfortunately not. :(
Fantastic shrimp! I'm wondering how's your experience with BTOE? Are they significantly more fragile than OEBT?
Hm, I think they are relatively the same, maybe even hardier. OEBTs have been finicky for me and some other people also.

Thanks bros! Yes, my tanks are in my bedroom, so I always hear the sponge filters bubbling, and now I have a turtle tank that has a power filter that is making lots of noise also! lol...still sane though ;)

Update: I picked up a set of diopters (no $ for a true macro lens yet!) and have been playing around with them. They seem to work okay, just have to be steady and expect to take LOTS of pics from which one or two will turn out "decent." Some examples:
