Heya guys!

Got my tank set up and cycled. Went to the LFS and found these two there listed as grade A shrimp. I think one is a no entry, the other I'm a little unsure of the grade. Could be an SS, SS+ or SSS (Didn't want to get too excited)

I'm fairly sure its a girl and a boy. Planning on getting more stock from a different sauce to diversify the gene pool, but I thought I'd share my first two, so here they are:

Can't really see the no entry too well, but it does have a small patch of red after the first dot on the more red shrimp. Now some of the one I'm unsure of. Anyone that can give their thoughts on the grade, I would appreciate. Not really for any other reason than for me to learn to be honest:

And then, just as a goodbye, some super close ups of the little lady. It was all done using a cheapish digital camera with no attachments, so I'm sorry for the kinda pants quality!

Let me know your thoughts my shrimpy friends!

Sam

On a seperate note, I just noticed that the pic of the two side by side shows clearly the differences between a girl and a guy shrimp. The size difference and curvature of the under side is very apparent in the photo.

If anyone wants to use the photo for a gender comparison article on this site, feel free. I don't think I will be able to put one together myself, but if its going to be posted here on shrimpnow, I'm happy for someone else to use it.

Thanks for the feedback guys, and thanks for the grading clarification gr81.

From what I can gather, there arent very many high quality shrimp in the UK, so it makes it even more strange to have found some pretty nice quality ones in a random pet shop.

As I get more I'll amke sure I update you all with pics!

How are those grade a? You got the bargain of the century. How much did you pay for these grade "A" shrimps? lol.

They probably got marked down due to the weak coloration (red looks to be faded in your pics). Some grading systems (japanese, I think. they prefer color over pattern) immediately put a shrimp in A grade if the coloration is not solid (usually only applies to PRL though). That being said, those are still some very nice shrimps and would generally not fall under A grade in most parts of the world imho.

Nice work spotting a bargain, interestingly i was in dobbies garden centre and spotted a tank full of S+ being sold as A Grade, also.

I never bought any as ive got a tank full of S+ but it just goes to show its worth having a good dig around. :-)

Im not sure that is the case, i think for the most part, shops in the UK have not woken up to the shrimp phenomenon and so would stock a kangaroo as a jelly baby if you told them to.

Hi Sam, which fish shop was it? Do they usually carry shrimp?
