Got these in the mail yesterday. Package took over a week to get here, but the excellent shipping ensured that they arrived alive. Started eating algae wafers within an hour of being in the tank.

Wow, those are nice looking! A week in transit - was it just the holiday shipping slowdown, or did they come from another country? An online plant retailer just sent out a group email to his customers, saying he only ships through USPS, (because they have heated facilities along the way) and they were saying there was an extra 5-8 days in transit for regular mail right now, so he's going to postpone shipping for a week to avoid the delays.
So they didn't get hurt, did they? And how big are these - they're very nice looking, but I can't get a sense of scale from your pict (although the pictures are just stunning! - great photography work!).
Did you get a large enough group that they might reproduce?
Thanks for sharing the great pictures!

Thanks, Walter and Jane.
Jane, they were shipped from Germany and hence the transit time. I picked up two pairs total so hopefully I can breed them (I breed C. shulferti). Crays were shipped correctly (each in their own breather bags with moss and then insulated in a styrofoam box with newspaper) so there weren't any signs of stress. The ate an hour after being put into the tank and were actively exploring the tank.
As for the size of these guys, they're smaller than the cherry red shrimps that they're in with. The plants that you see in the picture are actually Hemianthus callichtroides and these guys are small enough that they can sit on the index finger nail with some space leftover.

Hi Ibn,
Wow - that plant is HC? That really changes my sense of scale, LOL - I was thinking it was some other stem plant. They're smaller than Red Cherries? Gosh! I've got to learn more about this cool little cray! Do they reproduce with a supressed larval state - ie, giving "birth" to mini adults?
Can I ask if you got them from "Crayfish Germany" on Aquabid? I'd love to get some of these little guys. That's great about the shipping - it sounds like the shipper really knows what they're doing.
And I'm even MORE impressed with your photography, knowing how diminutive these guys are now.
Thanks for sharing, Ibn.

They are smaller than cherrys? Hm, at the photots they are also looking very small. Normally they should be a little bit bigger for shipping but as you can see, they seem to be hard enough for such a long journey.
I wish you good luck with your new friends.
Greetings

Thanks, Jane and Frank. These guys are really small at the moment and am expecting them to grow in a bit more (they're smaller than my C. shulferti at the moment).
Crayfish Germany is the person that I got them from. Great packaging as stated. Also good communication even after delivery of the crays. They also reproduced with a suppressed larval stage from what I gathered.

What's a supressed larval stage? Do they grow bigger than cherries?

Hi,
a suppressed larval stage means that the babies are miniature versions of the adults.
The adult size is about 5 cm.

Congrats on your purchases Ibn, I will be looking into getting maybe a pair in the Spring / Summer, when it is easier to send them without heating packs.
Thanks for posting them, they are adowable and cute as buttons !! :D
Cheers

Really cute looking mini lobster look alike
Hope they do well together with your shrimp. I wonder with their claw do they hunt other shrimp as food when they grow slightly bigger (like ghost shrimp)

Sure they are trying to catch shrimps. Sometimes for food, sometimes for this:
The shrimps are so damaged that they will die after that procedure.
At all I also have cpo together with shrimps, but I think bigger or more productive shrimps like cherrys are the better choice.

@ Ibn - I am sure I will
@ Frank - Wow, nice shot there !

Yup, very nice shot there. I observed the same thing last week for two consecutive nights and the female shows it (lost one of her legs).
Haven't had any problems with these little guys with cherry shrimps. They're in the same tank and the cherries are still reproducing like rabbits.

Is that her leg cut off and sitting there to the right side? Sheesh! Poor thing - I hope she weathers the process and grows it back!
Amazing close-up pictures! Is she carrying eggs yet?
Their dark eyes on the orange background really get to me. Very cool looking critters.

I recently obtained three of these little guys from Germany (2f and 1m). They are definitely better than any shrimp I have ever owned. Crays plus shipping was only 115 bucks. :)
