I'm having a 1 ft nano tank with hanging filther and bio filther with airstone within my tank. Water had been left cycling in the tank for a mth , with weekly change of 40%. There java moss and they seem to be growing.

But everytime i introduce shrimps into the tank. The shrimps seem to go crazy.. actively swim up down left right..... stopping once a while for a sec or 2 before they repeat the process.

i did a water change of 30% and introduce another batch of cherries.... same thing still happen. Wonder if anyone could enlighten me what mistake did i make?

Water temp 28 degree

What else is in your tank? What else have you added? Did you acclimatize the shrimps slowly when introducing them to your tank?

A picture of your tank may help and details of what you have in your tank and how did you do the water change may help to pin point the problem.

28C for Cherry is ok.

dont have a pic yet. i got the shrimps from one of the guys selling online. Met him bring it home put the plastic bag onto the water for 5min, untie and allow some water to mix with the water in the plastic bag.. and let the shrimps slowly swim out.

did WC by removing 40% of water, fill up a container holding roughly 40% of the water with tap water, use anti chorine , stir and replace the water back into tank....

add abt 2-3ml of tetra liq fert every WC

Probably it is the fert causing the problem..

Try not to add anymore fert.. you don't need fert with java moss anyway.. :)

Hi CandieG,

I had similiar experience on my new tank setup recently. When I first introduce the shrimp from my other tank, it went berserk like you've mentioned above, so I took them out again (I did it a couple of times). My initial thought was the water parameters (which cannot be overlooked) ... so I bought different test kits to make sure the water parameters is ok. Then re-introduce the shrimp again. Yet again, same thing happens. After many tries, I lost directions (posted in this forum before) what to do next so I left 2 cherry in the new tank. After 2 week plus, they're ok. Then I added the rest of them ... total 15 shrimp. Up to today (about 2 months) ... the only casualties was 2 yamato which I believed jumped out from the tank as I can't find them or their bodies :)! Now the cherry are pregnant. I guess everything are ok now.

So, my conclusion is ... I guess if the water parameters are correct, shrimp swims around actively could be due to stress and new environment!

well, just my 2 cents ... good luck to you too!

thanks nano for your feedback. Right now the shrimps are slightly settled.. perhaps is part of the tank might be too barren for the likes of the shrimps... i'll take note and see how it goes

cheers

This is what i experience for my new NANO tank when i first started out. I even went all the way to change the substrate suspecting it's the problem.

That solved the problem for me but previously i was using lapis sand. So my suspect is that my tank is not fully cycled and suitable for shrimp.

I would say give your tank more time to let it mature. Take care more of your plant. Put some fish to cycle the tank and observe if you wish and you will be rewarded for your patience eventually.

spinex .... haha... same here. i also changed the substrate, change the drift wood, and even took out everything to see if it is the tank problem :(... and everytime i do that, have to cycle the tank again ... duh! it's frustrating and lost, but like you said, reward are for those who is patience! :)

You have a lot of patience! when I was at your place and looking at that empty tank with substrate, rocks and downoi, I already felt like adding some some shrimps lol
