need the following recommendation and advise for a 2 to 3ft chilled tank setup. :)

what are the reliable brands and their average cost?
what is the required horsepower for a 2 or 3ft tank?
what kind of surrounding noise and heat level are we expecting?
finally, how much is the operating cost?

btw, have anyone tried DIY chiller? any comments?

wat shrimps are you keeping that needs to be kept in a cool tank? :wink:

i've not much experience with chillers but recently got a teco ra200 to play ... it can cool up to a 4ft tank but i used it only on a 2ft tank ... hence it cools down the tank pretty fast as i set it at 26 degress

as for cost, cannot comment since me newbie too :D the heat is something u need to take note as it is hot air being expelled ... hence if u get a under powered chiller, it will run quite frequently ... noise should be minimal ... hope this helps :wink:

Either you go for hobbist giving up selling their chiller with no warranty or buy a new one. Get those with at least 1 year warranty just to be safe. So far Resun is the cheapest canister-look-alike chiller can be found in most well known local fish shops in Singapore.

I am a newbie here. Can someone tell me what's the purpose of a chiller? Is it for shrimps only? I intend to setup a planted tank ... do i need a chiller?

A chiller will cool your water temperatures. Plants can tolerate higher temperatures better than some of the fauna (fish, shrimp, etc.). Shrimp, in particular, need more moderate temperatures to breed.

Bro do a search in the internet on "DIY chiller " . there are a lot of tips .
they even use mini refrigerator make it as a chiller at the same time u can put ur can drink or beer in side, hahahaaa..... :joking:
