Hi,

I plan to setup a fresh new tank again this coming holiday.
This time in my room

Pls comment whether my setup is ok?

Normal light with profantic fan
ADA amazonia substrate to help control the Ph(slighty acidic)
Taiwan Moss only (which i got from Ben to make a carpet and maybe wall)
a Old 2ft tank with (new)Sponge filter.

Not sure how i should wash or clean an old tank....which my brother used to keep goldfish inside its been lying dry around for months

Most probably wont use back that Co2 planted tank to keep shrimps as it is infected with insecticide.

Just to share:
Ben's lost his crs population while his cherries survive his insecticide accident(Baygon or sheltoxn) being spray near his tank by his wife....As for me I see a few dead bodies of my baby cherries yesterday night previously lost 4 -5 adults too..... i think it quite serious for my case.

However i will not relocate them(survivors) to another tank scare i might spread the insecticide to the other tank(water change equpiments and plants too will stay for this tank only just to play safe).

My Co2 planted shrimp tank most will probably stay as if the remaining shrimps survived.

Hi simcb,

Do take note for new ADA soil, it releases slight bit of ammonia which is useful to plants but will kill shrimps right away. You might want to try seasoned ADA soil. FYI I'm also using ADA black soil and it has maintained the ph of 6.6 for almost 2 years.

Good luck!!! Show us a pic when the tank is ready

Hi damnit,

ADA soil black = ADA amaziona? Amazonia is black in color and africana is brown.

I will try to make a taiwan moss carpet to absorb the ammonia

I wont be putting in any shrimps until the tank is cycled for at least 2 months. I might in put in a cardinal or guppy after 1mth to test water.

After spending some much.... my buy new Digi cam plan will be postpone again lolz.

ADA soil produces ammonia like Damnit said, and the ammonia will be ended up as nitrate, and the level is significant during the initial period. If your tank is with low mantainance plant(like moss and fern) and without fast growing plant, but you can alway add in you, check out Library on what plants are good. If you intend to have moss tank only, you won't need ADAsoil. PH/KH can be controlled by peat moss and coral chip in tank/filter.

Can i still use ada soil if its a moss only tank? Will it become too acidic?

I looking to maintain a constant Ph of 6.8 and Kh of 2(same as tap water).

I only want to keep taiwan moss(enough to cover 2ft wall or carpet) and will be using spong filter.

I too lazy to do research on how much peatmoss and coral to balance the ph/kh of a 2ft tank....very scared i might end up fighting to get the correct ph and kh. I want to keep maintaince as low as possible as i got too many tanks for me to handle as for now.

PS: I think my mom will nag at me for starting another tank....she scare might affect fengshui lolz.

You may just need to use a thin layer of ADA soil to provide weak acidic and also do large water changes in the first few weeks that will get rid of most of Nitrogenous waste that comes in ADA soil.

Water in the bedroom is bad for fengshui?

If i pour in the whole bag will decrease the ph to less than 6.6 ??? Or I am wasting ada soil if i pour in whole bag?
ADA 1 inch and lapis bottom 3 inch?

-Discussion abt Fengshui-

Although its a bit :bs_offtop anyway hope you dont mind.

According to most fengshui setup and theory.
Water is not neccessary bad but....(quote from the websites)playing with fengshui is like playing with fire you might get burnt however just undo changes if you feel that its cause you some harm. The effects of the changes will probably set in after a few months. Read the below for why fish tanks is not good for bedrooms.

According to the fengshui sites (bedroom is a place of ying energy)
(Fish tank with running water or live stocks in is a symbol of yang energy)

Harm that most fish tanks cause is:
-Sleeplessness
Fengshui hearsay:
(lack of ying energy in the room and increase of yang energy)
Scientific proofs are:
(sound of the pump humming, fan humming, water running )

-Bad luck (cant say much, need you birthday, birth time, location of your room, apartment and best get a fengshui master to verify) To verifiy is it suitable to place a fish tank there and etc.

Not sure true or not.
