The most high quality close-ups, are taken with dslr cameras. But more important is a good lenses and not the camera body. In addition, a good external flash-light is helping a lot ! I am using a Nikon D 60 body with sigma 90mm f 2.8 macro lenses. I also use in most shots the SB 600 flashlight by Nikon.

Hi Frank :)
I take at least 20 shots to be able to take 1 good one out ;)
You must have a very steady hand when doing macros and lots of patience.

Eviltrain thanks for the tip i didnt know such thingy exsists :) cool. Will try to get it as a christmass present ;)
The second photo of the egg would do better if you could also have a back light.
Here you have some more shots using the reverse lens (18mm). You can clearly see which photos had back anz front light ( the ones with more clear details)

Photography is about working with light not just having a good lens :)
I use the office table spot lights to light the back of it.
Experiment.
