Hi guys,
i have a thin film of brown algae on the glass of my ten gallon tank and it seems to spread. It is just a film on the glass and is also visible on the top of the leaves of my anubias nanas. I can scrub/scratch the glass but the ones on the plants are pretty hard to do so without damaging the plant. Will buying a couple of ottos (O. Affinis?) help reduce the amount of this brown algae on the class and top of the leaves? Thanks

plants :

DIY jello CO2
anubias nana 4
hairgrass

5 marimo moss balls

The algae you have described are diatoms (dust algae). Otos are a very good choice for this type of algae. Your glass will be clean before you know it!

Will about 2 ottos be sufficient or does it depend on how much algae there is? Thanks

I happen to like otos. I say the more the merrier! :) They are a social fish, so having more than one is ideal, but one will be enough. They are very efficient with dust algae. It will probably only take a few days at most. With two, the algae will be gone even faster.

Otos are very nice and peaceful fish, I keep them myself but would advise to keep a bigger group (around 6 or more, depending on tank size) .The feel better then and will swim in a swarm.

Vittina or Neritina snails will do a good job, if they arrive in healthy condition in your tank. The breed in brackish water only, but sometimes tag their eggs in the tank.
