Rimless tanks are hard to come by in the US. One of the LFS's in the area had them, but they were being sold at ridiculously high prices (I forget the prices, but more $$ than I'm willing to pay). Do you guys out in Sg or Malaysia have easy access to them? How much are they?

Hi,
I'm from Germany, i hope you don't care. Here you can get rimless tanks almost as often as ones with a rim, if you look for smaller tanks. The largest rimless tank I could find so far is a 2,5ft long tank from Hagen. I have this thank for many years now and I see no difference to other tanks. I also have a custom made 60x40x40cm rimless tank of 6mm thick glass and I have no problems with it, too. So I see no reason for rims on tanks below 25gallon. BTW, the 2ft custom made tank cost me about 35€ which are almost 50$. That's about the same price like a standard tank with such a volume of water.

regards
Robert

Rich,

What tank size are you look at? I see rimless 1 feet cube and up to about 1.5 feet round corners tanks around.

I didn't pay attension to all the details, a 1 foot cube is S$18, if I am not wrong. I bought a less but close to 1 feet round corner rimless tank at S$15. Are the prices a steal to u? :D

I have yet to see any rimless 2feet or larger ready made tank here, but one can custom make them.

Hey Fruitpie

That price is more than perfect for a tank that size, here it would cost 3 times that amount that you just gave us.

The tanks I have seen have been no bigger than 10G. There are other tank sizes in 6G, 3G, 2G, and a 1G (all great nano tank sizes). I don't know what the conversion is to liters (and I'm too lazy right now to look it up :D ). There is a set that has been sold here in an lfs that has all of these one inside another (like the russian toys/souvenirs). They've sold about $130USD for the entire set. They are rimless and curved corners in the front.

I guess I'm trying to figure the cost of getting them from Asia and shipping them back to the US and whether it's worth the effort if I ever head out that way. I think it'd be cheaper than $130. lol Geez, that's the Chinese in me thinking cheap cheap cheap!!! :embarasse

retardo,

Those in sg are mainly from china,as informed by e lfs who import them. That's why they are sold so cheaply. They are made of glass also.
So ,if u are trying to ship them over, can try in that direction.Price will be abt half of what fruitpie mention

Sounds like an extremely good price. One of the guys I know from a plant group I'm a part of said he could get them from a supplier in Asia, but the cost is still relatively high. Plus, we have to put in a bulk order before the supplier will even consider shipping it to us. Both factors are not favorable.

I found these ones, and I think they have a larger one, but I can't find it on their site, only on Aquabid.com: http://www.catalinaaquarium.com/product_info.php?cPath=29&products_id=1340

wow, $49 for 2.7G. I guess it's not as bad since they already include the lighting and the hob filter, but still...

hehe... anyone in asia care to buy me a set and send to me? :joking: (well, only 1/2 :joking: ) :embarasse

Note that most countries in Asia are using 240V, you will need a step up transform to use in USA.

Not to worry. That link for Catalina Aquarium is in the USA, so voltage conversion will not be necessary if indeed one were to purchase it at $49.

I was referring to your post at #11, appealing to someone send from Asia to you.:)

That Catalina tank seems like a pretty good deal, especially with the lighting included (not a bad light). I know a lot of people who want a particular size/dimension of tank get them custom built. I know my aquascaping skills aren't up to a standard high enough for me to spend out on a custom tank. :)

I've had tanks sent from Singapore before. They were well packed and padded and shipped via boat. Took 4 months and they arrived in shards. Never again for me.

The last time I saw the price of the rimless tank that was quite cheap was at a fish farm in Singapore. They have pre made ones and they will also custom make the tank based on your requirements. Maybe you can try checking out the price of such tanks in from the fish farms over in your country, they might and should provide quite similar services. I dont think that shipping tanks form our country will be cost effective as the weight of the tanks can be expensive to export, not to mention the taxes.
