I saw these at the lfs but they were nearly colourless. Most had a little bit of red on their heads and tails.
Since mislabelled shrimp and fish is common at stores, I`m just wondering if this is normal. Will they colour up once I get them hope and give them a little TLC?

Your description isn't really descriptive enough to truly know what species you're talking about. More info pleez... :D

no matter what the species, it is still a risk...
I once bought some faded diamonds from a LFS thinking they will get back their colours when stable since the water condition looked bad... eventually turned out that was already their stable colours :p

It`s hard for me to describe them. I`ve only ever seen amanos, glass and now these guys. I don`t know what to look for. They were about 1/2 inch long which I know doesn`t mean much. They had arched backs more like glass shrimp than amanos. Their eyes stuck out of their heads quite a bit :) and like I said before, most had only a little red on thier heads and near the tail.
I know that doesn`t help much. sorry. I just don`t want to pay 2.99 for ghost shrimp or even for something that`s too hard to keep.

Maybe you can take a look Species above, to see if you find any of them look similar to the shrimp you are talking about.

Could it be the rhino shrimp?

I`m thinking that maybe they were tiger shrimp but no `tiger` from stress. Is that possible?
O.k. Let`s make this a little more simple. I want a shrimp that will eat algae, breed readily in my tank, and the hardier the better. Are there specific ones that I should stay away from? Shrimp aren`t that popular around here so I don`t get to see many. Most places have amanos. Other places try to sell ghosts as amanos. Few places have cherries but at 6.99 each, I`m not not getting a dozen of them! I`ve heard a few people say they`ve seen tiger shrimp but I don`t think I`ve ever seen them for myself. (unless these ones are indeed tigers)

hmm do you see the markings like tigers? Since you said they are only 1/2 inch, you might not the markings as clear as adults. But I havent seen a tiger with red head and tail, only seen orange.
A picture would stop this guessing game :D

I wonder how to explain that to the store owner.
`I don`t beleive what you tell me they are, so I`d like to take a pic and poste it on the web to find out whether or not I`ll ever come back here again, `cause lord knows I wouldn`t come get any fish or plants at this place` :)
I doubt I could tell the difference in those tanks had orange on their heads or red. It could have been orange. I guess I`m not much help eh. Asking to I.D. a shrimp that looks kinda........shrimpy is rather silly. maybe I`ll buy 2. If they colour up or at least allow me to get a photo, I`ll get more later.

Just tell the owner, wow beautiful shrimp let me take a picture and set it as phone wallpaper/computer wallpaper. :D
Yeah just grab 1 or 2 while you are there. If they are Caridina Sp., they do consume algae so you wont waste your money. Btw, which part of Canada are you located?

Tigers don't ever really exhibit red coloration. It doesn't sound like a tiger to me.

hmmm, 5 hour drive for a few cherry shrimp? Maybe next time. lol I used to go to Toronto quite often. (Scarborough actually) with my girlfriend. Now she just goes by herself and doesn`t tell me. Leaves in the morning and back by supper without me even knowing.

Actually there's a LFS here in Toronto which carries Tiger, Bumble bee, Blue, Green, Red Nose and a few others. And today I saw CRS for the first time. But they are very expensive. Since your gf comes often, maybe she can grab a few shrimps for you as present or souvenir. :D

yeah, I`ll run that idea by her. Wonder what she`ll say. Actually, I have a good idea what she`ll say, which still leaves me looking for them locally. :)
