I have nevr kept plants in my aquariums, even though i have had aqurium for 15 years, i recently have been interested tho. I only have experience with the easiest of all plants, java moss. I have ordered easy fast growing plants, 5 water sprite, 5 jungle vall, 1 dwarf grass, and 2 amazon swords for my 120 gallon angel tank. right now there is no substrate, its a bare bottom tank with some drift wood. it has 2, 4 foot 35 watt flourescent bulbs that have a colour temp of 6500 k each. I want to for now just keep my plants in pots, so i bought tupper ware containers that are 12 inches buy 12 inches, and about 3 inches deep. 1 for the sprite, 1 for the5 jungle val, 1 for the dwarf grass, and 1 ech for the amazon swords. i would like to get them going in the "pots"till i decide what i wanna do with the substrate.

PLEASE let meknow the easiest way to grow them successfully like this, aswell as what i should do in the future for substrate.

thanks in advance for your help, i appreciate it.

Excuse that I get, BUT it seems to me that 35 watt a little for such aquarium...
Besides it, what is necessary for normal growth of plants? Correctly - a food... What is necessary for fast growth? Correctly - fertilizer and СО2

At many forums process of start of aquariums and also process of adjustment of the equipment for giving СО2 is in detail described

it is easy to keep plants in pots with the right substrate, but you must consider adding an extra canister filter with a sponge or a hang on back with sponge so that you will raise the bacterial count to break down shrimp feces into plant food. Ive used leaf zone as fertilizer. Do it yourself Co2 easy as well. used plastic bottle, darken it- (paint or tape) 1 liter. add 1/4 cup sugar, 1 teaspoons bakin soda, water. make sure to have backflow prevention devices, and monitor your Ph as Co2 will lower Ph. anyway cheers... shrimpnairf
