Posted this rubbish tank before. Shrimplet keep increasing. Mosses over grown. Somemore ithcy hand n bought 4 banana wood shrimp, 4 female cherry with eggs and 4 female yamato with eggs... :D

Thinking of rescape the tank. For sure will lost quite a number of shrimplet. Any idea to prevent to reduce the chances of killing the shrimplet while rescaping?

what about just take out the plant/moss, clean the glass and rescape without changing water. Any extra Xmas moss or HC to spare? :)

Maybe need to reduce the water level 1st.

Btw, saw NA sellling some Tropica's plant today (the HC is RM 70 per pot)....

Anyway, have you seen NA's 3 feet showtank with moss/nana; what is the name of those moss cause the bosses been giving me different name...

What do you have in there besides moss?

If I were you, I will do the rescaping every 2 to 3 days 1 step, it will take a long time to finish, but make little changes each day will cause little water condition changes and less/no harm to the shrimps. And follow by a partial water change after each step to remove any toxic in water and debris.

First, I will start of by scraping the algae on glass away (so retardo can have a clear look of what are the plant inside there :joking: ).

:joking: There are cherry, tiger, Blue, Green, Yamato, CRS and Banana wood shrimp inside. Plants are weeping, java, xmas, singapore, taiwan, willow, pelia, nana...and others.

Planning to rescape it tomorrow. Taking the water and moss out and place them inside a pail. And try to get the shrimp out slowly... then do the 100% rescape. And will use back the old water. is that ok?

haha... you truly have a moss jungle in there! Can you still distinguish between the different types? I would stick with one kind of moss, if at all possible (that way you can dump the "rubbish" when you describe it)... perhaps a moss wall? You may want to add some fast growing stem plants to outcompete the algae that grows along the glass. Add some rocks/driftwood for a hardscape with plenty of places for your shrimp to hide. Re: moving the shrimp, make it as painless for them as possible. Most can take a little bit of stress w/o any real harm.

Will try to use a small cup or bowl taking them out with water...

Btw, the algae on the glass actually is the food for the shrimps n shrimplets. :D

Have a suggestion, for those moss/plant on wood or rock that you intend to use back, have a good shake in pail of tank water (that you dont intend to use back), lot of debris will drop out. You may have to spend sometime scooping out simplets. :D

It will take you a few days and many rounds, before you can get them all out. A torchlight will help definately, dont use red pail.

I rescaped once, and green shrimps just released babies and after 4 days, I still can find babies, what I did was to pour the pail of water and put it in a tank in air con yard (covered with fine mess to prevent mosquito breeding, some floating plant added), one month later, I went back to collect grown up green shrimps (survival rate in the yard tank is better than my indoor tank  ). Green shrimp is strong, can use this method, not too sure for other species.

Since this tank is very stabilized and shrimps seems to love it, I think best not to rescape haha. ;)

I say go ahead and rescape. You seem dissatisfied with the setup, so you may as well.

ai yo...one said go ahead. one said no. kinda hard to make decision. And yes..i am quite dissatisfied with the messy look. But scare the scaping will kill anyone of them. or just...make them stop breeding n dying. :undecided

yah.. don't rescape! You might destroy the formula that makes your shrimp keep reproducing be it the amount of hiding places, light and shape, detritious or the protein packed microscopic and not so microscopic living organisms your shrimps eat... :undecided

I have seen no ill effects (or, at least, not many) from rescaping a tank. The stress on them is very short term and they return to what they do best very quickly.... eating algae and being happy shrimp.

What I would do is:
1) take 1/2-2/3 of the water out of the current tank and put into a clean bucket
2) net (this will not harm them) as many of the adult-sized/visible shrimp and put them into the bucket
3) take any plants and put into the same bucket as shrimp
4) allow the water the settle from any uprooting of plants, etc.
5) look closely to see if you can find any remaining shrimp and net them as necessary
6) begin rescape after you have dumped the old water
7) rescape as desired with water at 1/3 level
8) relocate shrimp from the bucket to tank
