Since yesterday my little golden rabbit snail has not come out of his shell. I cant even see his body inside the shell, it looks like an empty shell but no body anywhere to be seen. Is the snail dead? Is it hibernating? Any one know whats going on with my snail?

take it out and have a quick smell of it. if it smells bad, it's dead. To be doubly sure, put the snail in a seperate container and observe for a day or 2. You do not want a dead snail inside your tank to pollute the water.

They can go dormant for a few days, its fairly normal if they have eaten well, or if the water is not warm enough for them.

As was said, give it a sniff, if its dead, you will know, as it will smell rotten.

maybe they need to get used to the tank. try checking if the water parameters suits him or you changr it lately.

Mine do this all the time after a big feed. Like someone said before it will smell horrible if dead.

Well it doesnt stink, but it smells kinda fishy, like aquarium. But its not horrible or that noticable I had to put the snail althe way in my nose to get any smell at all. its been liek that for about goin in 3 days. Looking inside the shell I cant see anything. How many days is it normal for them to stay in their shells? Thanks for the help erybody!

You can't see it inside of it's shell at all?

Nope, its completely retracted into the shell beyond the curve of the shell where the eye can see. It looks like an empty snail shell.

should be dead already, since it;s been 3 days

place it onto a lettuce leaf or some boiled green veg and see if it comes out too eat.

What have you been feeding it on ?

Still no action. I removed the snail Im sure its dead or doing some hibernating that I cant find any info on. I have been feeding the tank Hikari shrimp cuisine pellets, otherwise the snails just wanderr around the tank. I have 3 other golden rabbit snails as well which are doing fine. I have had them for about a month and a half. Thanks for all your help everybody.

R.I.P my baby Golden Rabbit :(

DO you have a pic?

Its just the shell, no pic needed. You cant see the snail. Its shell is an ornament on my desk now. I dont really feed them much, I have some almond leaf in the tank and I toss in a few ~8 nibs of Hikari shrimp cuisine every 2-3 days. 3 of my other snails are just fine would you suggest I feen them some vegetables like boiled cucumber or spiniach?

I give mine a variety of foods, algae based wafers, shrimp pellets and boiled green beans. The green beans are a huge hit and are always gone after a few hours. Whatever isnt eaten after say 3-4 hours i vacuum it out as it will start to spoil the water.

All my snails looove spinach!
It is good for the snails to have acess to greens at least every week.
I put a spinach leaf or a piece of cucumber on a fork and leave it in the tank for a day, and all my snails are crawling all over them selves to get to it.

Have anyone noticed that snails rested (lay somewhere and not moving) after a good snake?

These snails do not move very much, especially after they eat.

Is it possible to overfeed them? Should I worry about this?

RoryM

I dont see how they could over eat and get ill, only thing I see with over feeding is fouling the water sooner then expected. As soon as mine become uninterested in the food i take it out.

Thank you. I just see them eating carrots without brakes :)

Do you have problems with stuck snails.
Mine caught a balance on a sharp rock and 'hanged' there:

Thank you.
I saw another one set itself against an air stone and stuck there. Note that I have them for several days only.
I'm not sure that they can live without my help to get out of sticking :(

Did anyone have such experience?

Mine get themselves stuck all the time, but always get themselves unstuck after a bit of a rest :-)

I have givern up helping them, as they always get them selves out of trouble in the end.
