I'm afraid this is a big problem to most aquarists. Best way so far is to add in a predator. By adding clown loaches they might attack the shrimps as well, so i suggest removing the shrimps and add clown loach till all snails are eaten. Good luck.

A smaller, but probably not better for shrimp, fish is the yo-yo loach. Some of the other loaches will work as well.

That would be pretty hard to do. The water chemestry in the two tanks are completly different! One very alkaline(shrimp and snails!), the other very acidic. Plus, i really dont have the room!! Any other options?? Thanks guys!

Last resort will be manual removal when ever u are looking at the tank remove some snails. They will gradually reduce in numbers.

Hi,
I prefer to remove them by hand. Loaches, puffer fishes etc. are aggressive towards invertebrates and I think they will attack a young shrimp, too. Why shouldn't they if they can ?

Try to use a slice of cucumber to catch the snails. Of course you shrimps will also be happy about this food but sooner or later the snails will come, too. It's a way to help you, even if it is not that effective. Best is to kill them by hand whenever you have the chance. It takes a while but it works. Don't try to add any chemicals against snails. They contain often copper, which is also toxic for shrimps.

Best regards

Robert

Any loach will finish off your smaller shrimp in no time. As mention, the snail chemical is also harmful to shrimp. The only choice is manual remove.

I am having that problem too.

Or you can try to remove your shrimp to another tank and leave the puffer in the infested tank for 2 week to finish off the pond snail (inc snail egg). But then, you will have problem how to deal with the puffer once the snail is gone.

Nobody brought up assassin snails.
You can try assassin snails. They eat pond snails and other pest snails like ramshorns and MTS.
But one problem.
They DO eat the pond snails, but sometimes they dont go for the pond snails.
Sometimes they'll go for the shrimp.
But if there's a lot of pond snails, they'll probably not go for the shrimp.

I recommend assassin snails.
They will do the jobs well.

these will attack the apple snails, and once a while they will catch a shrimp too., but mostly will be the weakest shrimps

i had a massive snail problem in both my tanks. my barbs soon sorted them out in the tropical tank, they like to bash them open on rocks and get to the juicey bits.
in my shrimp tank, i just use a little shrimp net and net any out i can see, and feed them to my barbs!
if you do this for a few weeks, once a day just remove the ones on the glass, and ones u can see, then you should notice a drop in snails. at least i have.

I agree with the others Assassin snails are is one way to go. But i took out mine because they ate all my shrimp eggs -_-. Too many pond snails usually indicate overfeeding.
