I just experienced an outbreak of planaria in my nano tank. There has to be 1000s of them. I already did a 50% waterchange and they are still everywhere. I'm going to clean the filter and do another waterchange tmorrow.

Whats the best way to get rid of these little buggers? Are there any shrimp-safe water treatments that can be done. Or am I reduced to stripping down the tank and treating the tank and filter?

Any suggestions would be great.

reduce the amount of food you feed, suck ur gravel (if possible) and stick a few littl fish in there that is shrimp friendly. this will cut the number of planarias down but it wont get rid of it fully, check if there are any decaying matter in the tank.if so that could be the cause of the outbreak in the first place. so try and get rid of it.

Thanks guys, ill pick up some ottos and maybe 2 little tetras tomorrow. I'll still do the cleaning like I planed. I guess ill have to watch feedings, didn't think i was feeding too much but I have been feeding bloodworms the last few days. I'll have to be more spareing or use another high protien food.

You can use product like no-Planaria from Genchem. It work for me perfectly!
Second, you can go with dogs dewormer (fenbendazole) I use it in the past also have no problems with it kill every planeria and hydra in my tank.
Note: caution both product will kill snail so remove all the snail you want to keep. After couple water changes you can put them back again.
