I finally fed my crs spinach but I must say I'm a little disappointed.. I've read all over the web that says crs just love them like kids love candy. However, mine just eats them casually.. in face some prefer to eat the moss even though they were right next to it.
Any ideas what happened?
Could it be because there is some trace pesticide on it? I did wash it throughly and run it with my fingers and then I boiled it and stopped once it became soft (should i boil longer until it half disintegrates?), took it out, rinse it in tapwater to cool it down and popped it into the tank.
(My setup (http://www.shrimpnow.com/forums/showthread.php?t=409) is the same as before, but I have put in more moss and riccia so that they always have instant food. I also added two more driftwoods so they have more privacy and personal space..)

You may just need some time to get used to eating spinach. My tiger shrimp didn't take to it quickly either, but now they eat it more readily. It may be because it is foreign to them. Make sure to suck out any leftovers that they don't eat on a daily basis though; you don't want to foul up the water.

I sometimes feed my shrimps nettle (cook it for a few minutes first and don't collect near a road) it seems to bee very good and healthy food and my red cherryshrimps love it. The bees eat it but not that much and the rest of the species don't like it at all :D

good idea but im worried roadside plants here might contain pesticides... we're having a mini war on mosquitos right now.. besides, I'm really bad at plant identification I could pluck poison ivy instead lol
Thanks for the idea though :)

Once the shrimps start eating the spinach, they will like them just make sure you cook them enough. Also when feeding veggie, make sure the veg is pesticide free. I heard of several cases of "poison" spinach. Maybe you can try the organic section.
I heard that you cant mix spinach with tofu, it will cause some kind of chemical reaction in humans that will cause grow stones in galls.
Fact or Fiction?

I think some supermarkets have a "Organic Food" section.
There are also stores selling only organic food.

I would say fiction. They both contain oxalic acid and calcium, spinach more oxalic acid and tofu more calcium, I think. Gallstones do contain calcium and oxalic acid (and mixing calcium and oxalate will get calcium oxalate), but you need to be drinking way too little water and eating lots of calcium and other stuff to increase the risk of getting gallstones, I think. You can find more information using Google and words: calcium oxalate gallstones.
Nettle contains way less oxalic acid than spinach, btw.
Sorry, I have a headache and it's hard to write understandable english (or any language) now, I hope this didn't confuse more.

I wonder do shrimps enough drink the water from the tank :D . Maybe besides spinach we could try other leafy veggies.
Yea, but the old folks over here insist that we don't cook or eat this kinds of so called "banned combination". E.g. like eating crab later persimmon as fruit(food poisioning), tofu and spinach cooked as a dish(gall stones), recently in Singapore from the news 2 died from drinking alcohol and eating durian(reason of death ??? ) and etc.

I usually visit the organic section in bigger NTUC branches like the one in Bedok. Coles and woolworths sounded so familiar isn't those in Australia? They are in singapore?

Yea i was there too. Shopping for food whenever i have free time, it has become a pastime for me over there because i also cook my own meals. Until now I am still impressed over the varties of food Coles and Woolworths is selling imagine they are selling durians(frozen), longans and rambutans.
Comparing them with local supermarkets in singapore. I personally feel that its not up to the australia standards yet especially the "organic" section. The organic section is so tiny in the local supermarkets you can hardly find much choice suitable for shrimps.

You were lucky! The woolies and coles in Canberra had no durians! I could only find a few in the asia grocery but the durian shells were brown! (I think they must have been frozen whole or something..) :)
