Boiled is better. This softens up the veggies so that shrimp can easily eat bits and pieces of it. Boiled veggies also makes the aroma of the veggies more detectable.

Take your pick. I prefer "wet tissue" (slightly soft).

how long do you usually leave the veggies in the tank for??

No more than a day. Remove any excess, uneaten veggies to keep water nice and clean.

so anywhere from 12-24 hours is a good time for those veggies to stay in the water. how long does it take for the veggie to start decomposing, creating an ammonia spike i mean

I usually introduce the veggies during light on hours and remove them once the lights goes out. Left it in there for 6 hrs - 8hrs.

I reckon 24hrs is not a good idea.

Is is safe to feed boil veggies?? After boiling, will the insecticide be gone? I saw from another forum one guy feed spinach and his 400 plus crs all die. How to be sure there is no more insecticide before feeding?

Best is to feed them with fruit like cucumber and pumpkin, they have a layer of protective skin, remove the skin before feeding or boiling it.

Instinct will show them the way. Unlike us humans, who require nurturing from our parents as babies, some of our friends in the animal kingdom know exactly where to go.

I was wondering nowadays with so much artificial fertiliser and chemical sprayed onto the veggie we eating everyday, if we feed it to our shrimps even it's boiled, will it be good for them ?

Although the amount of artificial fert or chemical wont kill us but for the shrimps we do not know.

Organic food for our shrimps ??

True, but I only feed normal veggies and so far so good.. TOUCHWOOD! :X

Maybe feed pellets as a staple diet, with occasional veggies.. that's what I'm doing now anyway :p If they want to eat plants they can eat moss and algae.. fresher and contamination free.. :)

Shrimp is kinda hard to get in Malaysia. So far KL have the more choices. JB... only Malayan shrimp available. I believe most of the JB hobbyst went to SG to hunt for the shrimp.

Wow, no one mentioned spinach, or did they

I boiled a load of spinach a then froze it. Every now and then I get a small leaf out of the freezer, let it defrost and give them that. They love it.

On the best Polish shrimping website I found the info that shripms - especially cherries - love banana. I'm going to check it. Have you tried feeding bananas to your shrimps? The skin is quite thick, so I think it's quite safe in terms of pesticides.

Veggie for the red color try red paprika (cooked). But be careful with chemicals on them. Have lost 90% of my crs one time!!!

Normally i feed only peeled veggies: zucchini or cucumber.

erm.. how to get the veg or cucumber to sink ? mine seem to float on the water >__<

Frank
22nd Dec 2005, 01:57 PM
There are special "rings" of clay for that. The branded clay is heavy enough to take it to the ground and the material is harmless to the water. Also itīs not so expensive.
Other people are using wire of lead (from the plants).

Frank

Hi CandieG,
Like Frank said you might want to tie it to 1-2 piece of biohome or ring to make it sink. You can also to clip/tie it a wire mesh.
