wow -- that is too cool. About what size is the baby in the photo? I've got a lot of questions about this species -- how many young per brood average? Gestation period for the eggs? Average length of female dry spell between broods?

thanks for sharing,

Amanda

The baby is approx 5mm, for reference that substrate is Taihtian Moon Sand. This was my first brood with them, took approx 6 weeks from the time I saw the females discarded molt until I saw these shimplets. I've been able to count 11 babies. They are incredibly hard to see so there are probably more. I did notice about 4-5 days ago she moved to a different area of the tank, dug a pit and styed there for 2-3 days, not even tempted by a fresh crushed snail just beyond her reach. When I moved it closer she did take it tho. Not sure on how long between hatchings she is dry, as again, this was the first time and I aquired them about 8 weeks ago. I did not her abdomen is looking a bit swollen again so I think she me be ready to carry again soon. I'll be looking every day to see.
