I heard from this guy that and Biomax were pretty good brands. Anyone used them with any success? Currently I'm using Mosura, Shirakura, and Hikari. Would like to expand my shrimps diet.

Hi Snikerz

Im not familiar with BIOMAX, but want to share something. I got my hands on the ADA Aquajournal Vol 166, Which featured the Red Bee Shrimp.

In that i came across some diet recommendations which were ADA AP-3, ADA Bacter Ball and ADA DO AQUA Spirulina. Post that i have included 2 of these in my shrimp diet. What i feed my shrimp is below

Shirakura
Hikari Algae Wafers
Boiled Spinach
ADA DO AQUA Spirulina
ADA Bacter Ball

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the response! Very informational. I think I'll pick up some of the bacter balls soon. Heard good things about them. Could've sworn I put in the post but don't know what happened. What's do aqua spirulina? Can't find it anywhere

Hi Snikerz

I had posted a link to the DO AQUA product, i guess it was removed?

Any rules against posting links?

Anyways, go to the ADA official website, there look under DO AQUA products .

Hi Icex

You can go to the official ada website, and put a search for bacter ball, ADA does have distributors in Malaysia, so should not be a problem getting it

Rumour that Mosura Brand is releasing a new bacter product that is designed for shrimps and crustacean, not something initially designed for plant. Has anyone got their hand on it yet?

Hi Ahdex

Havent heard anything about that ..... But wanted to clarify one thing, even though the ADA Bacter Ball is used in planted aquariums it is nothing related to growing plants in specific, its content is what makes it special. Bacter Ball is nothing but a solid form of ADA Bacter 100 Powder which is 100 types of bacteria in dormant stage. These bacteria build up in an aquarium naturally over a period of time, but this product basically is adding it artificially and reducing the time taken for the bacteria colony to grow. I sprinkle the powder form of this product (ADA Bacter 100) into the filter every time i clean my filter and bio media , it helps to restore the lost bacteria when cleaning.

The CRS hunt for this bacteria in the substrate in a well settled tank, and this bacteria is very essential food for shrimplets as well if im not mistaken, i think even Shirakura has a similar type of product which basically does the same thing , which is increase bacteria content in an aquarium artificially. My experience with this product has been good, Initially when i put in a Bacter Ball, the shrimps were not too interested or so i thought, but after lights off , i saw them eating away on it like crazy, my 6 CRS and 2 CBS finished an entire ball in 24 Hrs.

Hope this helps :)

I've begun to use a product called rid-x to increase the bacteria in my tank. It's used to clean septic tanks : )
