I can feel your excitment when you see the first baby. It is a very nice baby, with thick white, it should grow up to be a beauty. :)

:singer: Welcome to CRS parent hood :smitten: !
Have you count the number of CRS babies in your tank? How many pregant females has released their eggs so far?
I am currently keeping track of the number of females diamonds and estimated the survival rates of the babies. I can't help notice first-time mothers has offspring with low survival rates in my tank. In my case after 3 virgin females has release their eggs only 5 babies survived during the first wave. I am now getting slightly more 5-6 babies from the next release from one of the females. She got pregnant again after she released her eggs and disappeared for a few days.
PS: Man those male diamonds in my tank are horny :p. Everytime a female moults, the males will hover like crazy. :D

Thanks Bro simcb !!
My tank is over grown with moss and have quite a bit of hiding place. So not quite able to count. So far saw 2 only. But quite a bit of prgant crs. I got a total of 40 to 50 CRS in the tnaks but at only one time I am only able to see about 20 only. So far I know I got about 6 pregant mothers right now. but before 1 month before, I have 5.
yup those guys are really horny. I can see them chasing the females once they moulted.
cheers

How can you tell they are S grade? Are the parents S quality?

Sad to hear that. One of my tanks had met a calamity also, lost a lot of very high grade adults. Save what you have and the population will be back.
Good water quality is needed to bring out the grade/color of babies, so since your adults ran into problem, that means the water is no good. Give them good water, the color of babies likely will come back.

Hi Bro Retardo,
The first batch of babies have grown to about 1+ cm already and the bands of red and white are pretty good. I am just following some grading standard that is from the website to judge.
As for the adults, I only have S grade and SS grades only in the tank so, the babies must be from one of these grades parent.
Cheers

Sad to heard that you have the same problem.... but i think that is the challenge of keeping CRS.
I have measure the nitrate, ammonia and other parameters and all looks to be ok .... So I am not sure what want wrong...
One thing is that my PH is quite high 8.3 and can't seems to get it down as I am not using CO2 for the tank.
But looking at how this goes, going to get a set and lower the CO2 down and see if the situation improves or not...

That's good to hear on all counts. Sucks to be losing some of the adults, but it could be due to a lot of different reasons. We naturally tend to look at water params first. Any idea how long they've lived? Did you get them as juvies?
>( If only we here in the states can get our hands on S and SS grade CRS. I managed to get some B or C grade CRS recently. I'm happy to have them and they're fun to watch, but I wish sometimes that they will get quite a bit brighter.... wishing thinking, only, unfortunately!

PH 8.3 is too high, have to use additive as our tap water is in high 7 or low 8. Just becareful with CO2, dont over inject.

How come your PH is so high ..mine also without CO2 but hover around 7.2-7.4. I using seachem onxy dark gray sand. I getting CO2 with solenoid during weekend .. hope to improve my planting in NANO and of cos PH hopefully will be below 7 range.

Bro, what substrate you are using? I am puzzle that you can get so high PH.
I think for CRS, the ph is best around 6-7.3 as this is mention in alot of japanese crs website. Personally, my ph is around 7.2 as i am using lapis sand as substrate. I think the main cultprit of you not having many offspring is the ph level.

Hi bro retardo,
I read somewhere that the life is about 1 & 1/2 year. And no, I have them since young adult.
I think it is a matter of time before you will get these high grades ones in USA. When there is demand, there will be supplys.

Not too sure of the root cause but hopefully the CO2 will help.

I am using normal lapis for this tank.... I know thats why adding the co2..
